So whats the plan here? Pre season tour around the corner and we only have 1 midfielder. Caicedo alone wont do it for us.. we need 1-2 more.

Or are we going to play Hall and Gallagher in midfield? 🤦‍♂️

Soon we are past the day, if we havent past it already, where all selling clubs will look at us and see a lonely Enzo and quote us £100m for every midfielder we might be interested in.

There's plenty of options. Gabriel Veiga. Rumours that PSG were close to signing him turned out to be false. Race is still open.

And there's Thuram, Kone, Lavia, Amrabat, Barella (tough pull). Only Rice has gone off the market.

If one of the Real Madrid boys are available - Tchouameni or Valverde, they're targets too. There'll be competition but we're in the fight I think. We have French, Spanish speakers and they'd walk into our starting XI

We need to start moving a.s.a.p

Lack of ambition

Wouldn’t say so.

He’s played in Italy since he was like 19 and is obviously comfortable there, why else would he of joined Roma and not a European/English side when he had chance to go anywhere he wanted on a free transfer?

Plus honestly, I think this sums up where we are just now with the uncertainty as to how things could go this year. A 12th place finish last season may not appeal to some established European based players like Dybala, who has played at Juventus and Roma winning plenty of trophies. The Mourinho pull is always going to be there too, was a huge reason why he signed for Roma.

He would of been a good signing though but sums up where our recruitment may be at when it comes to more experienced pros. Hence the continued links to u21s maybe? But regardless we need to start ramping up and getting in and about some midfield signings and fast.

Our main DMF target, Ugarte, as well. 🫤

WATCH: Paulo Dybala given STUNNING RECEPTION by thousands of Roma FANS

Id say choosing comfort and clapping fans over competing in the PL is lacking ambition

Even before the ownership takeover was completed last year it was reported that Clearlake's focus would be on building a young squad capable of being competitive. Last summer they went against their youth ideology with the signings of Sterling, Koulibaly and Aubameyang to please Tuchel but once they saw where that got us they haven't looked back. Since the sporting directors were hired the plan has been quite clear.

It's a numbers game to try and save the club some money. Look to buy many youngsters on speculative deals before they make their final breakthrough and then just bet on enough of them making it big and end up having gotten them much cheaper than already ready-made players would have cost. Even the ones who aren't quite good enough for us can still potentially be sold for decent money a few years in to recoup some of the money spent on signing them.

It's a bit risky and only time will tell how it goes. I personally haven't rated Poch that highly as a manager but for a project like this he can be a good choice. Even if he doesn't bring in the trophies, just having him develop this young squad for a couple of years could be beneficial for the club in the long run.

The kit reveal will be the most exciting thing to happen this week.

Be another quiet week on the transfer front.

Likely.

Competing? Lacking ambition?

City are 90% likely going to win the league again next year and we 90% won’t be competing for anything major next season.

What would he want to come here for, at age 29, when we could be at least 2 or 3 seasons away from being really competitive for trophies? If it was City or Liverpool I could see a move easily being wanted. Us? Not so much.

More chance than Roma doing anything in the next decade

Shame Dybala chose to stay, would have added goals and experience. He has been persistently injury prone and he / Mou have figured out an arrangement to work around it, I guess the lower intensity league plus the fact it is beautiful Italy is a strong draw to stay there and just enjoy football while he can.

I am really hoping we see something concrete about Caicedo pop up today that implies it is done very soon... I like him but honestly if it will take up our whole team for 3 weeks at a crucial time like this I'd rather just grab someone else and work on this slowly in the background with no pressure as a potential added bonus but the pressure on Brighton to sell a player that wants to leave more than on us as a team in a desperate situation.
