I’m definitely not giving up on Werner and Havertz and expect huge things out of both next season. Ziyech I kind of worry about.

Tbf to Ziyech he didn’t play from March till September and then had to move to a new country during the most challenging period in modern football had a few injuries as well.

I suppose that if the big strikers like Haaland and Kane are unattainable and short term options are under consideration to plug a gap for a season or two, then should Ronaldo be under consideration?

I'm not sure if he'd join us with his United past, but it seems to me that his career at Juventus is coming to an end and they may be willing to simply get him off the wage bill.

One of the things that I think someone like Ronaldo would bring is a sheer winning mentality, which would hopefully rub off on others and I still think it would carry the sort of statement signing that would make people sit up and take notice, and potentially breed a lot of excitement and confidence within the squad seeing someone like that join, even in the latter stages of their career.

As ludicrous as this may sound, getting Ronaldo would be even worse than getting Hazard back because (a) we would have to break the bank and the club's wage structure to pay his wages (he's earning a lot at Juventus - https://www.goal.com/en/news/ronaldos-31m-per-year-juventus-wages-still-three-times-more-than-/1pb5otbvkvd2u162op7t2bsug6) and (b) we would have to change our entire style of play and system just to fit him in. He's already 36 years old and he's not going to have legs to start pressing around, running around and basically defend.

It wouldn't be the most ideal of signings. Ideally we bring in someone that fits into what Tuchel is building, for the long term and can hit the ground running.

It would depend on how desperate Juventus are to get him off their books, but I'm thinking if there isn't much available in the market, could we possibly broker a deal just to loan him or take over that last year of his contract. It's a lot of money but it's one year, so the long term risk isn't there. He clearly can still score goals if the chances behind him are being created and I just wonder whether a presence like that in quite a young dressing room would actually be a positive to rub off on some of the players?

I quite like Calvert Lewin as an option but let's be realistic, Everton don't need the money and he's their talisman so we'd be lucky to be getting him for anything lower than £60-70m and they'd probably look to want even more. Add his wages on top. It's a long term signing but he's still very much unproven at the top level and if we were to get it wrong with him we've got potentially another player to add to the list of huge signings that fail to cut it and we're paying the price for his signing for the next 3 - 4 years.

Beyond Kane and Haaland, you then have Lukaku probably on his own level below, and then beyond that it's a huge drop off in my opinion and you'd be pinning your hopes on a much riskier signing.

Beyond the money, there's also the question how much involvement would Ronaldo want? If he wants to be a starter, then it's not going to happen. If he's okay with being a rotational option, then I'm not completely against the idea. Having said all that, would Ronaldo even fancy coming here?

That might have to be the route we take for the short term until something better turns up, like next summer when Haaland's release clause activates.

I agree, I'm not sure how realistic it is, particularly with Ronaldo's ties to United.

I think given his age, he wouldn't be against being managed rather than flogged.

I'll go back to it though, if we're having to take the risk on an expensive but unproven player to fill the gaps, then I'd rather we looked at Ronaldo or Hazard on a short term deal, and if things didn't work out we're not hamstrung in a season or two when hopefully there is someone a little more proven available on the market.

LOL

Can't really blame him for wanting. 😂

He made a big fuss about going to Arsenal and aiming to win the UCL so it must hurt him to see his former team mates have a shot at doing that the very next season while Arsenal finished 8th and have no European football to look forward to next season.

He's had a shocker of a season so even if Arsenal want to get rid I can't see anyone biting due to his wages. Maybe the MLS can be an option for a 2022 move but for now he's stuck there.
