🇩🇪 Michael Ballack

A massive influential personality and a top professional. I believe he has had a number of big money offers to play in the MLS and the Middle East but I think he is still weighing up his options because he feels he can still have one last hurrah at the top level - that is the character and desire of the man.

I don't care if people outside of the club see it as a sign of desperation - Liverpool resigned what many considered a finished Robbie Fowler and he provided very capable backup for them. Arsenal did the same with Henry. Man Utd with Scholes. Hell even Spurs brought back Klinsmann to help them out of trouble. There is no shame in it for either party.

During a busy period around Xmas, what if we have Mikel at the African Cup of Nations and Lampard injured. I don't doubt the ability of Romeu, Ramires and Oscar but teams will look to expose an inexperienced and physically weak looking midfield. Ballack could add some real steel and experience in times of need. We could also use him in the domestic cups and also a few games in our U-21 league as an overage player. Some of the younger players having the opportunity to play alongside him would be fantastic for them.

I personally think Ballack would relish the chance and wouldn't be surprised if he played for this season and then hung up his boots at the top level and took on some sort of ambassadorial or coaching role like Vieira at City. Would take him in a heartbeat.

Hmm. Ballack till the end of the season? I don't know. Someone might just be available in January, the club might be looking at that instead of someone like Ballack.

Saying that I wouldn't mind him here at all.

There's a lot of games before January. As the cliche goes you can't win the competitions by then but you can lose them!

Thinking about it, since we've let Essien and Meireles go we've got 2 more spaces regarding CM. Ballack now and then maybe a CM who will actually improve the first XI and is able to effect the double pivot(if available) in January. Doesn't sound too bad.

Perhaps I'm overall being harsh but I will always remember him as the guy who ducked instead of trying to stop Iniesta's shot

Wow, should we already remember Essien for the guy who whiffed at the ball trying to clear it just before messi took it and passed it to Iniesta?

Is it possible to sign him for 6 months only? Would be good cover. If not I'd still sign him up for 1 year. I don't think he'll mind sitting on the bench a lot. He knows he's at that stage of his career and I think he would love to come back here :)

Pay per play deal...

Works fo other clubs....

Why not us?

In fact I think that should be the de-facto standard for all players - sure a decent retainer as well, but only paid big bucks if playing - also link it to performance, like every other human working on the planet!
