FFS no break for Silva, he will play for Brazil on January 27th and February 1st.

Still give him at least 5 days off after that, he can miss Plymouth and get match fitness against Al Hilal on February 9th.

He's made no secret of the fact that playing in the next world cup is the main thing still driving him.

This is just a trade off we have to suck up.

yeah but he could make a deal with their coach that he can play the world cup but sit out those meaningless fixtures till then. i think he is just a driven man who still wants to play as much as possible and not every coach manages to save him from himself.

International football is as prestigious as it gets for a player though hence why even at 37 or 38,Β Silva obviously still remains that keenΒ to play. That will not change for as long as football is played. Plus TSΒ is still just as good as anybody out there and stillΒ Brazil’s best CB so I don’t get the logic in a coach making such a deal. And anyway, thisΒ β€˜deal’ your talking about, when do youΒ see this sort of deal with any other big player for aΒ NT? It doesn’t happen. The closest thing to it is when players return from long term injuriesΒ and coaches leave them out as it isn’t best suited to make them play.Β

I disagree, international football sucks and ja rightly shunned by more and more viewers

mostΒ ppl I know don’t bother watching qualification games and friendlies anymore .Β
Β

the World Cup is still a hit sadly but apart from that not exactly prestigiousΒ
Β

Messi did this in 2016 btw. TemporarilyΒ Resigned from the nt till wc 2018

Maybe it's a topic of discussion once he's finished up here as hopefully there is much more to come but where do people think Thiago Silva currently ranks amongst free transfer signings for Chelsea?

Off the top of my head I think the competition for that 'title' would be Ballack, Poyet, Gullit and Vialli.

There are some notable others like Eto'o and Melchiot was a decent signing too on a free but ultimately I think they'd fall below those above.

From aΒ players point of view though andΒ I don’t care what anyone says, there is nothingΒ more prestigiousΒ than playing international football though. Thats never going to change because of what it is and the level of selection available to these NTs. Particularly for playersΒ who are eligible for theseΒ bigger historical footballing countries like Brazil, England, France, Germany, HollandΒ etc.Β Usually when folkΒ ask players whats their proudest moments are, playing for orΒ captaining if their lucky enough to,Β their country andΒ then trophies are always the most common answers.Β

What Messi did was totally different though. Completely. He retired after the Copa America final they lost in 2016Β and had to he talked back to the NT by the manager and team mates.Β People also forget the fact people like MaradonaΒ said if Argentina didn’t win the 2016 Copa America they shouldn’t comeΒ back home to Argentina as well as the constant criticismΒ of Messi for not winning/deliveringΒ any titles for Argentina for years and years prior to that. He also took anotherΒ break again due to dysfunctional issues around the Argentine Footballing Association and hows it run which resulted in changes. So not even remotely close.

Hes definitely up there - but Vialli and Gullit actually sparked Chelsea revolutions , propelling us towards the Russian money.

Notably Poyet and Drogba second time round are also worth mentioning.

Silva breaks own CL record in Chelsea shirt

Last night’s performance from Silva even saw him break a personal achievement, according to statisticiansΒ OptaJoe.

The Brazilian centre-half ended up winning possession from Lille 12 times during the match, which is his highest ever tally in a Champions League game.

He’s made 94 appearances and counting in Europe’s elite club competition from his time with Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain and AC Milan.

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink was a key early 2000's bridge/transition player too

94 goals and 25 assists (87 and all 25 for Chels) for club and country in his 4 years here

Does anyone think Lukaku will have 112Β total club goals produced in his 4 years (hopefully less!) here?

Catch-Ups: Mark Schwarzer with Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink

Think Superblue was asking who were the best free signings.

But Jimmy was an amazing buy at 15m - partnership with Eidur was pure smash and grab. Could hardly everΒ head the ball though ! ⛹️‍♂️
