''Chelsea chief Marina Granovskaia 'clashed with Mino Raiola, uses late-night WhatsApp chats to get deals done and left agents stunned with her uncompromising manner', say insiders in a L'Equipe profile on the Blues' 'enigma'

Granovskaia is the chief negotiator for new players and contract renewals and, while she has been praised for her role in convincing veteran defender Thiago Silva to join, it was her display at the negotiating table for the sale of Eden Hazard that captured attention.

Hazard had a year left on his Chelsea contract in 2019 when Real Madrid aggressively pursued a deal for the Belgian attacker.

Negotiations were described as 'long' but Granovskaia 'had a clear amount' she wanted as a transfer fee and was unwilling to cave to pressure from Real Madrid.

It is said she was willing to keep Hazard for another year and lose him for nothing than sell on the cheap.

In the end she pulled off a reported deal of £134million in three instalments.

Granovskaia, who was in Abu Dhabi to see Chelsea win the Club World Cup, has been described as 'a savvy and fine leader' who is 'available and uncompromising' in her work, which has led to Chelsea becoming reigning European champions.

Forbes ranked her fifth overall back in 2018 in their 'Most Powerful Women in International Sports' list.

In addition, Granovskaia's work was recognised on a global scale when she received the Best Club Director in European football award back in December. ''

Has to be the most powerful woman in football which is normally dominated by alpha males. Very impressive. Kudos to her for standing up to Riaola. He is a money minded parasite.

Why is the myth that she is head of our scouting department still alive?

Was she ever assumed to be head of scouting or was it that people felt that as the person who had ultimate sign off on transfers, she should've had more understanding of player abilities to then kill them? For me the sporting director should be able to say to the scouting team, actually I have seen Kepa/Lukaku/Baka/Batsh*t etc and they're pony, I am not sh*tting £230m+ with ridiculous wages on those players. I mean, most of us on here said the same prior to signing that they weren't good enough. A SD obviously has to rely on their scouting department to do the leg work, but equally they should also have enough idea if said transfer is representing value or not for the club. Especially when we've had so many disaster signings.

Marina Granovskaia is set to speak publicly about Chelsea for the first time during the trial of football agent Saif Alrubie.
Alrubie was charged with sending Granovskaia, who was in charge of the day-to-day running of Chelsea under former owner Roman Abramovich, an email that conveyed a threat with the purpose of causing distress on May 22, 2022, just over a month before the club was sold to Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital.
The email is reported to have been related to defender Kurt Zouma’s transfer to West Ham United from Chelsea for just under £30 million the previous summer and Alrubie has pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Granovskaia attended Southwark Crown Court on Monday and was named by judge David Tomlinson among a list of witnesses in the case, which also included former Chelsea and West Ham United manager Avram Grant, agents Kia Joorabchian, Pini Zahavi and Barry Silkman, and Brentford owner Matthew Benham.
Described by judge Tomlinson as ‘holding an executive role at Chelsea under Roman Abramovich from 2012’ and ‘being in charge of the buying and selling of players’, Granvoskaia was not required to speak on Monday but is expected to do so this week.
Granovskaia, credited with being one of the most powerful figures in football during her time at Stamford Bridge, has not been seen by Chelsea supporters since leaving the club in the summer of 2022 and has never given an interview or spoken publicly on her time at the club.
Judge Tomlinson ruled that, because of the nature of the case and those people involved, that anybody with a personal connection to Chelsea or West Ham, including season ticket holders, could not take a place on the jury.

He also disclosed that he had once been a Chelsea member in order to buy tickets for his son, but that did not raise any objection from Alrubie’s defence barrister Matthew Radstone.
The jury was told that anybody who had a connection, either personally or through family or friends, with Zouma or former Chelsea players Antonio Rudiger and Tammy Abraham should declare it.
The case continues on Tuesday, when Granovskaia is expected to be in attendance and speak as a witness, and could run into the early part of next week.
