I agreed with that up until the last few months of last season, were I thought he was a total shambles, and unlike Matic he has never really been world class, I still have scars from that City game, the way City countered though him, Cesc, Ruben, Ivan and Cahill like a knife though butter still gives me nightmares, one astute defender out of them and those ridiculous counters would have been stopped for the most part.

If we are going to sign Kante, id rather give Matic a chance to get back on form, Kante and 2014 Matic would be hell of a battle.

That game was shambolic but it was against one of the best teams around. Mikel is capable of holding his own against 80% of the teams we'll face.

We can move Matic on and get a decent fee which isn't possible with Mikel. Ultimately, I think improving the first 11 is more important than selling and replacing the bench players.

Kante + Gomes seem to be the answer.
