You obviously did not see the long pass he did for Drogba. Was an excellent ball. Drogba just was not able to get in under control. Had he scored that, we would all be talking about how that was one of the best passes of the season.

he was also close to scoring from a lay off from Drog ..

You must have been watching a different game to me because for some fucking weird reason he was our biggest attacking threat after Ivanovic in the second half. Hazard couldn't be arsed, Drogba was beyond tired, Willian was playing right-back and Mikel was taking the piss by passing the ball in a direction other than sideways

Mikel an attacking threat?! I've heard everything now...Are you messing with me? The word threat implies imminent danger... Was it?! From mikel?! :)

No way you look at his stats you can consider him a threat in attack: his attacking stats are as low as they get.

Perhaps the reason we had no attack whatsoever was indeed because mikel was our biggest attacking threat. Another way: because our attacking players were off mikel ended up being our attacking threat which did not work obviously as we had little going forward.

Let me put in a way everybody can understand (even people who dislike Oscar): the stats (as well as your eyeballs) show that Oscar has a (MUCH) better chance to hit a long ball, assist, and specially score. So, the fact Mikel is trying those things will almost always end up in a lackluster attacking effort by us. Football is about completing these plays not how often trying them...

Also, we played crystal palace at the bridge.... Context...

So that's the answer! We've been arguing about Jose moving him to defensive midfield all those years and in the end he turns out to be a natural right winger!!

Tbf Irrc it wasn't actually Jose that turned him into a DM full time, it was Scolari, I read somewhere that Jose had him in DM for half his games but when him and Maka both played Mikel was further up.

True, but I can't remember how regularly he played under Grant so it may have been him too. Jose was the first to play him in DM, though.

HAHAHAHAHAHAH Urban legend states that mikel can't make a pass forward.

Again, he has never been used in his right position at CFC.

Here is what Mikel can do as a number 10, he litterally outplayed Xavi Iniesta & Busquets alone :)

This is what happens when he is given full freedom rather than covering the Midfielders ( which he had to because of no proper 6 after Maka :) )

Tbh. I don't think we'll ever see Mikel play like this ever again..

The role he's played in the last few years means he's got a different type of mentality.. All previous managers have instructed him to sit deep and distribute the ball to anyone who seems to be near him. Even if Mourinho deployed him as a number 10 v Liverpool, he wouldn't see what we see in your YouTube videos.

To be fair for Nigeria he plays as an 8. He was sort of like that against Palace too, he linked with Drogba a few times like in that video of him against Spain, looking to play a one two and get higher up, got a shot off. I think in previous years, hes played as the 6, to good effect but Matic and Ramires were both on at the time (I think) when he came on so he had a bit more freedom to play slightly higher and be a bit more free as he knew there was cover.
