Kante definitely showed signs of improvement in that Burnley game but I still agree that Kovacic might be a better option for that role in certain games against smaller teams. His ability to carry the ball is Hazard-esque and with that he can create space for the other attackers. He's more creative and better passer than Kante as well in my opinion and probably is more likely to score the odd goal once in a while.

Those nobs on Twitter and FB, IG, etc can sod off. They obviously have no clue about football overall, as Kovacic plays a different game from Barkley especially. RLC I can see TRYING (not sure succeeding) to play in similar spatial/kinetic models as Kova, but Barkley, no. I watch what Kante does NOW, and that role si PERFECT for Kovavcic, just perfect. I SUPER rate Kovavcic, massive fucking loss if we do not get him perm. I will cry (maybe, lol, my wife for SURE, as she has wanted him since Inter days and she cries much more than I do anyway!! It's gotten better, and I certainly don't think he's at his peak yet, in this role.  He has the technical ability and the brain to be able to.  He's not as good as Kovacic in an attacking sense, though.  Like I've said, different tools for different jobs.  the way things are balanced right now, I like it, it's a swiss army midfield.

these are the acceptable (to us, us being my wife and myself) replacements (and no, these are not AMF's as that is Barkley/RLC to me, OR (huge statement of intent ) Kai Havertz, who atm I would take instantly over Bailey if we could only have ONE Bayer Leverkusen player). We also think Sandro Tonali (Neves will be too pricey) is an absolute must , MUST MUST buy in the Jorginho role, as his backup and hopefully eventually replacement.

Sergej Milinkovic-Savic will be too expensive, (as would Saul and Koke and Marco Verratti), so

I'm ok with that if it means Barkley, Loftus-Cheek AND Mount will all be given proper chances here. I like Kovacic so so much but homegrown should be a priority for this club, especially when they are as talented as those three. Plus I'm not sure if Kovacic is the right player for this system – he just doesn't score enough goals

And he would cost how much next summer? 50-70m? I would find it somewhat surprising if the club decided to spend that kind of money on a midfielder when clearly the weaknesses of this squad lie elsewhere. Realistically speaking spending that money would also mean that Kovacic becomes an automatic started and would be ahead of Barkley, Loftus-Cheek and Mount in the pecking order before the next season even begins simply because of his price tag. I prefer this current situation where there are multiple players having a seemingly fair battle for that position.

2 different positions in reality

Kovacic is not a pure AMF, unlike Barkley and RLC

IF Kante simply doesn't adapt and IF we aren't going to sack Sarri, we need to sell Kante

Kovacic is tailor-made for his role

Many on here dont want to here that, but it is the brutal truth

we will know by seasons end if Kante can adapt

no way should he be given TWO full seasons, that's madness

we need to cash in whist we can, look at what is going to happen with Hazard if he doesn't renew

we lose probably 100 million quid, or 150 million or so if he walks on a free in a year and a half

He needs to work on his shoot. It looks miserable every time he tries to do it... Maybe he should abandon power-shoting and practice accurate placement, without so much power. Fine players with good pass and dribbling, like he is, tend to be good at shoots like that.

thats why i think Modric is the complete midfielder, can pass, dribble and shoot, Kovacic needs to start scoring more goals to reach that extra level.

Modric scores about 3 or 4 goals a season.... hardly a huge goalscorer but he's not that sort of midfielder. Kovacic isn't a goalscoring MF player either though but I wouldn't he surprised If he doesn't get a few before the seasons out. It would bring his level up yes but it hardly makes or breaks him as a player.

If Modrić have played in advanced position and in high-possession based team like Kovačić does, he would get in a lot more chances. In that case he would score more goals because he is better shooter than Kova. 7-8 goals, I would say, if you just swap him and Kova in this CFC team.
