I don't necessarily blame Lampard for not playing Jorginho up to now. But i think questions should definitely be asked if Kante is played as a holder again when we play Watford.

There was an interview he did during lockdown where he suggested he had identified a couple of areas he might look to change and try to improve and I believe Kante has been deployed in the deep midfield position in the belief to offer more defensive solidity, and that may be the sacrifice for the rest of this season to try and get the results for top 4. The three wins before last night at least gave some credibility to that assessment.

I think after yesterday however it showed that Kante in that position doesn't add enough solidity to trade off losing someone who can dictate and control the game in midfield. If Kante plays, he's to the side of the deep midfielder or played in a pivot.

Defensively we're a shambles. I thought our open play defending had shown signs of improvement but the last 2 games have been poor and we look like conceding every set piece against any side. We desperately need a leader in that back 4, which I hope we address in the summer. 

Until then however and after last night's game, I feel if we don't make top 4 we should at least go out on our sword. Attack is our only real option at present, so Jorginho or Gilmour has to play at that base, and Kovacic should be in there too.

If Jorgo is leaving why have him on the bench? And FL def has his favourites it seems, I give him Mount but Barkely, AC etc? When FRank doesnt know his best 11 then we are fucked.

I can't believe anybody with a functioning brain watched that game last night and thought: 'hmm, you know what? we could really use somebody who can't run, can't shoot, creates zero chances and can't defend in this game. he would really help!'.

Yeah, because football is  only running and shooting...You basically described Barkley and he  is an average footballer. Jorginho's key qualities are his movement without the ball, the sense where to position himself and the awareness how to procceed the attack even before receiving the ball.And the most important one - transitioning the ball quickly which is a consequence of the qualities above. 

And defending is not one of Jorginho's strengths but his average interceptions per game are the highest of all the players and he is second in tackles made, only slightly behind Azpi.

Its not that the physical side why people felt he should of been included. Regardless, are you saying as well he hasnt shown that he can read the game and make interceptions as well through positioning? He has done it in several games this season. If your able to read the game or see something you dont need to be a freak athlete either. Look at Busquets at Barca or Kroos at Madrid. There are countless others. Was Xavi a freak athlete? Was Pirlo? Was Scholes? Was Roy Keane? Is Rodri? Is Fernandinho? Is Fabinho? No but they are/were good at reading the game and could recover the ball.
 

Regarding his inclusion: It was more about controlling the game when it got frantic. He has got composure others dont, always offers himself to take the ball and is also a lot better at moving the ball forward and faster in the role Kante played the other night. I mean would you rather watch Kante or Rudiger or Christensen try force those passes or play sideways or have Jorginho who keeps the ball moving quickly, has a more adventurous passing range to drive the team forward? West Ham had men behind the ball, you need to move it faster to move them around And having someone who can get it off the CBs do that than piss about getting the ball from the CBs to Kante to the fullbacks and eventually to Ross/Kovacic/Mason/Willian/Pulisic or whoever gives us a better chance of breaking them down surely? Or do you disagree? As bad as we were defensively your not going to tell me that we created several clear chances or got a lot of opportunities to isolate their players in 1v1s or find runners in behind are you? 73% possession resulted in 6 shots on target. We looked ordinarily predictable bar when Pulisic had the ball.

It is Giroud from August to February all over. Frank is going to be the last one to realize what needs to be done...

But with Kova out and Kante playing 4 games in 10 days I hope we see him tomorrow.

It woked today. Kante broke up quite a few of their attacks and even did one of his dribbles that he used to be so good at. I Watford were so deep, Jorginho would not really have been much of an improvement but when Kante got subbed for the again ineffective Gilmour what is going on behind the scenes

But Watford were happy to stand off him (and our 2 CBs) and let him have the ball, which is somewhat telling.

Yeah but we don't have anyone near that level in midfield to play in front of him. this would mean he can never play to his full potential for us.

Tbh i see more of jorginho in him, playing simple passes quickly between the lines and controlling the tempo. he has not really shown the vision and long range  passing ability of Pirlo.
