The only place to be 11,313
Basel knew their roles and played as a cohesive unit as did Everton.Yes it will be a rollercoaster for a while and ignoring specific issues with the formation, players and manager (and there are several), we are where we deserve to be because of shoddy planning at more senior levels.Lack of a cohesive management structure, lack of a cohesive player recruitment structure, lack of a cohesive player progression structure (youth -> first teamIn Jose we trust..What's funny about the Everton game is that we did well when they were trying to play possession football - I'd argue that their win came from the point when they reverted to a more pragmatic, counter-attacking style.Like you say it's about a cohesive structure and that isn't something that comes overnight. You miss the point!I'm talking about the philosophy we are trying to put into this young squad. It should be an attacking approach, what Roman wants. I'm not sure if Mourinho is the man for that job. He's counter attacking instincts might not be the best for players like Mata. Then Mata will have to leave. If you look at the players we have in the academy and the style of football they're trying to play then it fits this club. Boga is a young Hazard/Oscar, not Mata and we desperately need a 24 year old Chalobah or Loftus-Cheek. It's going to take time, and that's going to require patience on our part. bushman 2,043
Completely disagree. Basel in the first half were nothing short of brilliant. They kept their shape, defending incredibly well and didn't put a foot in wrong. In the second half they had go forward and leave spaces at the back and they made the most of their chances unlike us. Fair play to them for trying to get the second goal after the equalizer instead of just sitting back to defend a point. The way I saw it. Basel were waiting hoping for Chelsea not to score many. Just look at Chelsea´s possession. Clearly it indicates who controlled the game. Oscar´s goalpost could have sealed Basel´s faith, but it didn´t. kellzfresh 7,229
As I explain above. Greatness is too strong of a word to be used for Jose, in my opinion.Better than good, perhaps ? Jose was fortunate to come to Chelsea when Roman took over & spent millions. Jose acquired a reputation of a winning coach. Then he proved it in Italy, but partially failed at Real. Success has been very generous to him, but as I said moneybag owners came by & suddenly Jose has a real challenge ahead of him.But he was successful with porto. In jose's first spell with us, it was only after our 9th game that we got into stride
kellzfresh 7,229
what about the older managers (began coaching before José) who are considered great?Examples: Jupp Henckyes, HiddinkJose is great...but there are other managers who are also great.Jose is one of the most succesful managers in a short time, he is definitely a great manager. I know jupp henckyes is great, sir alex is great, but so is jose. Barbara

I thought tactically they were incredible. Never lost their shape in the opening 45 mins except when Luiz came dribble forward and forced them to at the end of the game.Honestly I'm more upset about Hazard's miss. Oscar's shot was unlucky, but Hazard should have scored. So should have Iva with a couple of great chances from headers. The first was straight at the keeper and the second was cleared off the line by a defender. Like I said in the match thread, it's a game of tiny margins. Mourinho will be out first before Mata, as we don't get rid of our best players just to please any manager. Mata is only our best player when he's playing the best football. He's not irreplaceable and to be quite honest Oscar has had an impressive start to the season now that he's been given the chance. I think you're completely wrong about Roman by the way. He's not Brazil's number 10 (technically Neymar is, but hey ho) for nothing.
kellzfresh 7,229
mourinho will get it right, no available manager is better than him. He's studying his players, he'll find the perfect system very soon and we'll start stomping people once again.By this time next month, if the system is still not good. Then i'll put my hands up and admit mourinho does not suit our team. Drogzola 283
I felt the players didn't know their roles, specifically the ones behind the striker. Oscar, Hazard and Willian kept swapping positions and this was making confusion and narrowing our play. Cole no longer overlaps like he used to and Ivanovic was making great runs at times but we kept playing down the center. I feel we need to keep the roles clear for now, let the players settle down and get a good understanding of each other. In before the lock lol Ankit and The only place to be

We're a team in the process of being built and we have a winner at the helm doing it.What he needs is patience and time from the owners and the supporters. Oh yeah?Does the name Torres rings any bells? And that guy was and is useless! How much more for someone like Mata? To the moon and back me thinks! You see, Roman is like a fan. For him his player are the best ever and it's always the managers fault. Sort of like Mexico that always blame the coach after sucking ass!
