I think he knew that he would just be squad filler when signing for us. I don't blame him though, going from the last year of a contract with a half decent ligue 1 team to one of the biggest clubs in the world with a big salary increase is not bad. Even if he leaves next season, there will probably be clubs like West Brom, Villa etc looking to sign him.

i dont "feel for them" at all.

players like papy and baba were starters in their teams. they saw chelsea coming, and they happily took the chance to grab some money and "play" for a big club. what did they think was going to happen? jose would drop GC, JT and zouma to play papy? jose would drop azpi/iva to play baba when he did not do that for 13/14's best LB in the world?

these players would definitely know what is going to happen and yet they sign for a big "club". that goes for the "youth signings" too. so these guys pretty much self destroy their careers.

Baba is one for the future, but Papy is something else. I can't see him ever getting a chance for the first team at this rate. What on earth was he bought for?

Sums up why England's youth players rarely live up to their billing too, jump at the money and the 'big club' stature and don't stay put for their own development. At the same time dude, you can blame their representation. Agents are one the biggest reasons these kids are jumping ship, after all it's in their interest more so than their clients to secure a big move. There are exceptions, and that's if your talent enables you to walk into these big teams and be a regular. Sterling is showing that, as was Shaw, Stones would have probably been a regular fixture in our squad.

But yeah, Papy and Baba knew what they were coming into. The former was signed as a last minute deal to compensate for losing out on Stones and the latter was just brought in for additional cover.

Mind-boggling signing. He isn't even young to somehow explain this. It's apparent it was a panic buy to make up the CB numbers that Jose wanted, but we seriously couldn't get someone of higher quality? It's a non-signing atm, as good as a blank spot so might as well have given it to Kalas or someone.

The signing of Papy for me is an embodiment of our current season reflected in summer transfer window - below acceptable level. The board is far from clean from this mess. When you think about it, Mourinho has a very thin squad, it's no wonder a pragmatic coach like Jose is reluctant to ditch his trustees from last season for some unproven names given to him. I'm sure he would love to have more options in defence and midfield in this putrid moment, but there are none.

Baba spoke to Essien about Chelsea and Mourinho before moving here, he knew it would be tough initially but he felt he could be a long term player.

Feel sorry for this guy. Someone probably just went on Google and typed in "average centre-backs available on the cheap" and he was top of the list.

Alot of prem clubs were after him,Cfc been keeping tabs on him for a while apparently! Can play in midfield also .Think he will be involved tomorrow night.

We're in almost November, and you are correct, we haven't seen him play. Must be a reason there when he can't get in THIS defence.

Our squad is not meritocratic, so a lack of game time , is no comment on his ability.
