Radamel Falcao

Kalou scored twice last night vs. a full strength side. Falcao just scored against a mix of Madrid's 1st/2nd/3rd team from an offside position. Needs to do more to convince me.

I believe around 11 (I think that's it) are penalties though, meaning that's only 15 league goals from open-play - the same amount of goals 19-year old Lukaku has in a much harder league.

But you can't discount him for knocking in his penalties... Altought he hasn't impressed much as in previous years

8 pens. 18 goals in open play - still the clear top scorer other than messi and ronaldo

when you compare Falcao to Lewandowski its so clear to see Lewy has so much more to his game than Falcao who is just pretty much a poacher these days who can only score when he gets good service!

What do you guys think would be the minimum # of goals Falcao would need to score in his first season here to be considered a success? Like will he be considered overrated if he doesn't bang in 30?

I love him as a player and would welcome him here without question, but a part of me is wondering if we should indeed go a cheaper route and get someone else.

I agree and im pretty sure everyone in the forum would agree with you that we would welcome him here if he came hes a very good goal scorer but like you i think we should go with cheaper as well but not a lot of options in that department either

Tough to measure his success. Ideally we'd want to sell more than a million Chelsea shirts worldwide and gain greater following in the emerging South American markets.

To help that we should print up lots of plastic flags with his face on....I really think the more plastic flags the better, maybe even sell someone like Chalobah who is completely unproven at the top level and use that to print more plastic flags.

Also we need to include a clause in his contract about kissing the badge when he scores.

LOOOOL, thanks for reading it!

As far as Falcao's success, banging 25-30 and leading us to a trophy would be called a hit...

The point is that if we spend 50mio for him, he needs to deliver 30+ goals in first season and be super effective. But that wont happen. In first year he will adopt and then he will be 28/29 next year. For someone who needs to adopt and is not effective right from start, 50mio is a way too much...he isnt worth that money. If we were spanish club (or Falcao would play for PL team) and he would be already used to play in league, it would make sense, but this doesnt.

If we sign Lewa, he will need time to adopt but he will be half cheaper and only 25 by then.

Agreed with most of it, but I think he will actually score something between 25-30 goals and Lewandowski will not be only 25mi...

Overall, yeah, not worth 50mi, but if he is our only option (meaning Cavani to PSG and Lewa to Bayern), I dont see that huge of a problem!

Well, to be fair with Falcao, he scored 36 goals in his first season in Spain, and he was "adapting"; scored 24-25 goal in his first season with Porto when he came from River Plate, and was "adapting". In his worst season in Europe, this one (according to my point of view), he has scored 25 goals so far. Talking about regularity....

Adapting?

This is one of the best strikers in the world. He's not an amateur. He knows what he is doing. He would instantly make an impact.

If you think english teams will be problematic or whatnot for him in the beginning, do you remember what he did against us when we faced atlethico?

I believe the adapting period applies less to forwards, than midfielders and defenders. Look at Aguero and Michu who scored lots of goals in la liga, they came to the PL and even scored at a better rate. Torres also did the same when he just joined Liverpool from Atleti.
