What's the sense in playing Costa who just returned from injury in a meaningless game? It boggles the mind.

Improve his fitness and give him some game time. He'll probably be playing for Spain during the summer.

Where's Cech ?

Have a feeling that Cech has told José he wants to join one of our rivals and he took exception to that. Hence why he hasn't even been on the bench recently.

He's injured and will probably plays against Sunderland

Improve his fitness for what? when the season is already over. any player returning from injury should always be eased in and not thrown straight into a competitive game and risk the player aggravating the injury again.

He doesn't just play for Chelsea, you know?

He must be fit enough and willing to play. We aren't just throwing him in for the sake of it.

atleast hear what jose has said. diego "begged" him to play. he wants to play. jose says he did not want to but sometimes the player has to take the responsibility.

Ours and jose's responsibility is not to Spain but to the club. Jose doesn't get paid to get him fit to represent his national team. That's Del Bosque's problem not ours.

I'm aware of that, but he needs minutes and today is a perfect opportunity.

However, I guess we should have waited till August 8th to play him when it matters.

And sometimes the manager has to make tough decisions and act in the best interest of the player. throwing him into a competitive game is not acting in the players best interest regardless of how Costa feels. If he aggravates his injury or picks up a new one as a result, Jose will (and rightly so) receive the blame.

Costa clearly feels ready and is keen to get back amongst the goals. Him having a strong end to the season by bagging a couple before pre season could be important for next season.
