Never quite understood his victim complex. There's not been an English footballer in the last 20 years who has been quite so unanimously viewed as world-class as he has, yet he thinks people want him to fail?? Bizarre.

Has grown quite tiresome now. Even Arsenal fans will acknowledge he was world-class and the best in the world despite his departure. Sure he never get standing ovations and all, but for a man who proclaims he never cared if he did or not.. He certainly doesn't convince anyone of that. His omission has nothing to do with the consistent form of Cesar Azpilicueta at left back or a decline in Cole's performances under Jose Mourinho.

He has been punished for attending Arsenal’s Christmas party the night after Chelsea had been beaten in the Capital One Cup at Sunderland.

Indeed, he wasn't. Schurrle and Bertrand also went along.

Schurrle didn't get many chances for a while, Bertrand got shipped out and Ashley got the naughty step for a while. Think Ashton is wrong about Azpi's emergence though because he's been arguably the best left-back in the league this season.

Cole should've known better though.

Apart from Hazard's own part of the mistake for Atletico's first goal, Cole was pretty poor on his part too. Not sure why he had to go towards the ball and left his area vacated from Juanfran to get into. Had Azpi started at LB to begin with, don't think that goal would have happened.

Besides Azpi was pretty much doing nothing at that right flank until that cross late on. Azpi at LB would've been the more sensible option. But it was too late by the time he switched.

Maybe it's because Mourinho didn't have many options due to injuries/suspensions but was kinda surprised he went down the AVB/RDM/Benitez route of starting a FB out on the flank.
