Ashley Cole

Ash has been surprisingly classy about this whole thing from the start. Even after the choc-ice comment, he still came out and said Rio is his friend. The Ferdinand brothers are the ones acting like cunts from the start.

"Another of our established figures, Ashley Cole, has been linked with a move when his contract expires at the end of the season, but Di Matteo would love to keep hold of the left-back, who he still rates as among the best in the world.

'Yes I do absolutely, no doubt,' he confirmed. 'There are on-going negotiations with the club and it's something he directly discusses with the club. I would like him to stay here. It's something they have to sort out between the two parties, and my wish is that he stays here."

That doesn't give me much assurance. The board will make their decision regardless of RDM's preference.

Don't know what it is about Antonio Valencia but he seems to completely destroy Ashley Cole whenever he comes up against him. Right from his Wigan to United games he gives Cole such a hard game. Today was just another performance where he completely exploited Cole. Still a brilliant LB either way but just seems that he is cursed everytime he is up against Valencia

I don't think it was Valencia, more so him just loosing focus really. He tried to press really high all the time and always left Valencia or Rafeal, whoever he was initially marking to press up. Tried to press way too aggressively.

Valencia got past him at every opportunity. Also, Valencia done a good job 'again' at restricting Cole's attacking movement. The thing Valencia has over him is that he is much faster, has more endurance and much more stronger, reason why Cole finds it extremely hard against him

He had a poor game yesterday. His defending was very Luiz-esque in that first half especially. As Bir_CFC pointed out, he was too aggressive with his pressing and tried to do so which in turn left ample of space behind for Valencia or Rafael to run into. Maybe that's what RDM wanted our defenders to do but think Cole could have used his experience better knowing when to press high up and when not to. TBF though, the fact that he also didn't get much protection from the player in front him is not helping him either.

True. Its not the first time Valencia has caused Cole trouble. SAF knows that Cole is one of our main attacking outlets, and instructs him to hound Cole at every opportunity to wear him out.

Poor game yesterday? I'm one of Ashley's biggest fans and its evident that the last 3 games have been some of his poorest, he is usually focused 100% of the time but these last few games his focus has dwindled big time and I can't help but think its since this contract mess got out about the one year two year deal thing.

I can't understand for the life of me why players just don't accept the one year, play their best and receive another one year deal!?

@,

Cole's weakness is fast and direct wingers, his track record against Valencia, Walcott and Lennon leaves a lot to be desired.

Stick him up against a tricky winger (IE Ronaldo) and he owns him all over the park.

The irony is i think (from watching some of his games on loan at Reading) Bertrand is the other way round.

Because players of his calibre and status have offers coming at them from left and right. Not that I don't agree with what you're saying, though a typical fan view.
