I think the difference was that Shurrle wanted to leave for more playing time. Really understandable since he is still young and should be getting more games to develop. The offer was great and since the player wanted to leave, we brought in a replacement.

Remy probably won't develop much more and I think he doesn't mind being behind in the pecking order in order to be a part of a team challenging for multiple trophies. The offer would have to be really huge and he must want to leave for us to sell him. No point selling him for marginally more since a backup of his quality is hard to find. Scored some really crucial winners for us when we needed it too.

Man I hope you are right about the club keeping Remy. IMHO he is quality & can assist if he can stay healthy.

Sometimes I just don't get it. He's technically very good ( Most observers didn't liken his playing style from his marseille days to Henry for nothing), he scores goals consistently and actually has a higher goal scoring ratio than the "untouchable" Costa, shows up in big games and has proven very reliable indeed, Hasn't put a single foot wrong yet to most people, he's still nothing more than a mere squad player who's easily disposable.

From a purely objective standpoint, He matches up favorably to Costa and he has the edge of being better technically (not even debatable) and doesn't cause any controversy. Given his goal scoring ratio, there's absolutely nothing to suggest he wouldn't have matched Costa's this season if giving the same amount of game time. he's not a one season wonder either as he's proven himself in the premier league before joining us.

This only proves the theory that perception is everything in football. once people perceive you as a second rate player, it's near impossible to shake that tag regardless of how well you perform. "He's a player that was bought with the intention of being nothing more than second choice to the main striker i.e he is second rate"

No, I completely agree. There were plenty of times this season where Remy was clearly offering more than Costa and should have been started and I expect that to be the case as well next season.

While the case of perception is probably true for most fans, I think for Jose the main reason he kept picking Diego is the pressing that he offers that Remy cannot do as effectively. Also there's always the concern of wanting to play Costa when on poor form to help him regain his best form in which he is clearly our best option. That said, Remy has been by far the more consistent of the two.

I agree with this but what bothers me is the distinct lack of respect some fans still show him by implying he's nothing more than a fringe player, quality and impact wise. many are even calling for us to buy another striker next season to be 2nd choice behind Costa. The way some people address him you had think he's fabio Borini.

I agree he doesnt get enough respect, but about Costa vs Remy, i think Costa got the edge, especially for this team. Mourinho likes dominant strikers, and he likes his teams to be agressive and a bit "ugly", Costa is the definition of all that, and he's a lot more dominant and frightening than Remy, CBs fear and always busy when he's playing. He should tone down the silly things he do on the pitch, but im also sure some of those things he do helps Chelsea to be considered hard to play against.

Remy is perfect as the other option for us, and as long as he gets game time and enjoys himself, i see no problems. I just dont think we should sign a 3rd striker, because of how good Remy was the 3rd striker should be a youth player, probably Solanke.

I do agree that he doesn't shine with this world class aura despite performing really well, but the real reason why he is considered second choice to Costa is because when Costa couldn't play for a few games and Remy was supposed to come in and prove Jose need the real deal he usually got injured

I really like the lad though, definitely want him to stay.

Yeah he had the groin issue early on and the mysterious leg issue in the last 8 games or so.

Remy is much better than current Falcao, not even questionable. We should definitely consolidate Remy as our 2nd choice striker.
