Yesterday Diego played his 50th Premier League game - 31 goals and 8 assists.

Didier Drogba in his 50 Premier League games - 20 goals and 13 assists.

Although I doubt he will ever match Drogbas cup final record, if Diego stays eight years Id bet my left nut that his league record will be significantly better.

It's not at all a fair comparison because what Drogba offered for the team, especially in his prime, is so much more than goals and assists.

Costa has been in excellent form since Guus' return, but would anyone really take Diego over a prime Drogba? I certainly would not.

Agree with your main point, especially with your first paragraph.

But, just curious, do you think you have seen prime Costa in here? What makes you think that he 'had reach his peak, he could not get any better than this state' ?

Yes, Costa looks like a 37 years old man, but at 27 years old, I think he still has a room for improvement, and not reaching his prime yet. So, I don't think it is wise to judged that at the moment.

Sorry if it was not clear in my post, but I was actually talking about current form Costa. For all we know he might still surpass prime Drogba (though frankly, unlikely).

Oh, I see. As what I am added up on my post earlier, I think he is still has a room for improvement at 27 years old. So, I think we haven't seen prime Costa yet. Fingers crossed he will stay fit for many years.

Didi had sublime technique all-round, he was a menace both in his own and the opposition's box. Drogba was a more complete footballer, but there is no doubt that Costa had a far better debut season.

Yeah, that hamstring will be key to whether or not he can still improve. Unfortunately every time he seems to be reaching new levels he gets an injury set back.

Yeah, no doubt.

Costa offers more than goals, a be it not to the same extent as Drogba, his off the ball movement allows for so many chances to be created, even in the first half of last season when he was on bad form, we were creating a lot more chances with him playing than with not, Leti had to adjust without Costa, last season they didn't create even half the chances they did the season before with him.

Also it's easy to forget now as he left twice via the party bus but Drogba had many games in every season after Jose left bar 09-10 where he couldn't really be bothered in that particular game (Wigan away under AVB he was infuriatingly lazy) and it cost us lots of flat track points.

Costa's movement and runs are world class, but he comes no where near Didier in terms of aerial ability, hold up play, link up play, dribbling...etc.

Of course Drogba had awful periods here, but my initial point regarding the stat is that Drogba and Costa are very different players so you can't compare them in goals. How does he compare to Aguero or even Torres at Liverpool?

To add to this, Costa's technical ability is awful. His movement is top notch, no doubt, but technical strikers, like Suarez, Aguero, etc., who know how to distribute the ball in top notch fashion without it seeming like a chess game, are far better than pure finishers, who thrive a lot on players behind them and the offside flag staying down. Doesn't mean I don't love Diego to bits and want him to stay for as long as he can.

His link ups underrated, he has often been the forefront of some great moves, main example was Schurrle goal at Ethiad, his  aerial play on the other hand not even I can defend him there.

The main gripe with Drogba even discounting the goals from either player was his tendancy to see some games as beneath him, a problem I can never imagine us having with Costa, and sometimes barely put the miles in, that's why I think Costa could end up being a more successful league player if h stays as long as Didier did.

Of course I could be wrong and he could never reach the heights of Drogba or get close, but as Jose said with the Ivorian himself let's judge him when he leaves us.

I dont want to put the kaibosh on him but his hammy has been alot better this season eh! Last year we thought he was going to have an op as soon as the season closed. but he didn't. I wonder what miracle cure they used for it?

No matter what I want the Beast to run riot for the rest of the season. Love seeing him get behind defenders and getting those long balls from Cescy. I want to see Kennedy up front with him.
