Hybrid Angel 2,130
Pirlo was a regista - a deep-lying playmaker. On his own he was even a bigger defensive liability than Fabregas. What made him so effective for Juve? Two powerful box to box mids like Marchisio and Vidal who made up for his defensive duties and also contributed a lot to the attacking play, hence giving Pirlo the freedom to orchestrate the match. Even when he was man marked, the beauty of ball-playing centre-backs allowed them to bring the ball out and play on. Fabregas CAN play the Pirlo role. The difference with us is that he does not have the same privileges as Pirlo did, that being two powerful box to box mids. Cesc has to play beside Matic/Mikel who are not only poor but also lack in athleticism and ability to cover distance. Fortunately, Fabregas is that good enough that we can build a midfield around him. By doing that we would be getting the Naingollans and maybe another b2b mid. I would call that killing two birds with a stone, since we desperately need that type of midfielder anyways. Mate I think Cahill wouldn't want to stick around if he's a valuable squad member of the team Cahill is a type of a person who's loves to play football week in and week out not sitting on the bench with a big pay slip like falcao

His only options are a lower league team or going for early retirement in China/USA. He'll stay.
Blue_Fox_ 2,086
Cahill will definitely stay, and to be perfectly honest, I would prefer him to stay over Ivanovic. And he is english, so he's going nowhere. Back to Fabregas, happy birthday! I partially can't stand him on the pitch, except for when we play shit teams, but I wish every footballer would have his qualities when going in interviews and overall behaviour. I will go as far as to say he may well be in the starting 11 first game of next season. No Zouma, probably no Terry, Christensen looks to be staying at Gladbach for another season from what I see and we don't know what CB we are buying yet. Cahill has to stay. It is not like we have a lot of strength in depth in that department.
