No official bids for matic or f4 as of now. Still not good enough? We will be trying for the EPL and CL next year. Baka is not an assist guy like Cesc. Even if we bring in James, we still need someone that can sit deep like Cesc to be around cause he'll get plenty of game time this year.

It's likely a case of Conte recognizing Fabregas' talents and wanting to keep him in the squad. And quite frankly, it would be stupid to sell him when he's one of our only 2 creative players in the side and our squad depth isn't exactly huge right now! Pizy 18,917
I love Cesc and I really, REALLY hope Conte decides to play with 3 midfielders like he did with Pirlo, Vidal, and Pogba. Cesc would be unbelievable with the legs of both Kante and Bakayoko around him. Free of defensive dirty work he could be unstoppable. I think we'd be able to completely dominate most of the PL including some of the other big teams with that midfield 3. We also wouldn't have to worry against opponents like Spuds and City where they dominated much of the play and possession due to Matic and Kante being too limited. We would be the ones doing the bullying. Seems we're not in any rush to sign a striker, and also with no sign of playing with 3 midfielder formation, to keep Baka, Kante and Cesc playing, we might go for false 9. Magic Lamps 11,692
Cesc used to play false 9 for Barca but I doubt he is still capable to do so with all o fhis pace gone.
Special Juan 28,141
Keeping him could be the best decision all summer. We have Bakayoko now so hopefully that frees the lad to pull the strings and dictate the game like he's supposed too. We will never play 352 while Eden's here bar late on in games and some big un's. Plus it's not as easy as saying Baka and Kante to do all the defensive work for him, Cesc would still leave hole's for team's to exploit. Plus there's the stamina issue, it's no coincidence this year is the first time for years he has performed well late in the season, starting him week in week out will just end up with him being tanked by new year again. I mean, we have more games next season and since Fabregas seems certain to stay, it'll be stupid of Conte not to use him more often than he did last season. And besides, Fabregas has never really shone when he played as a 'False 9' for Barcelona and Spain. yuvala and mccg

Why not? Hazard can play just off the striker as a second forward. I'd be shocked if we don't see the 3-5-2 a bunch this season. Less running around chasing opposition midfielders and attackers for Cesc means less fatigue and drain of his stamina. If a 36 year old Pirlo could play the role at an elite level I see no reason Cesc can't. They have the same skill set. Doesn't have to be every match, but I'd love to give it a go as our main formation. Mufassir08 and RoyalBlues

Hazard pretty much already has a free role and I doubt Conte is going to allow another one and have only 8 players doing the work against the opposition. And Pirlo was able to play at a high level for as long as he did because the pace and intensity are much lower in Serie A than the Premier League. Do you really think he would have survived that long had he been playing in the Premier League? Also, it's all good saying we'll playing the 3-5-2 a lot next season but do we have the squad depth to do that? We currently only have 3 CMs - Fabregas, Kante and Bakayoko - and what if one of them gets injured or suspended? Matic is leaving. There's no hint of us using someone from the academy and even if we do that, the quality might not be there. And there's nothing suggesting that we're after another midfielder in the market.
