Essien19 1,415
I am sorry but you seem to be contradicting yourself. Cesc with the likes of Mikel, Matic (other slow midfielders) is a shambles. We need atleast 2 defensively GREAT and mobile midfielders to compensate for cesc, which would cost us another 60-100mil pounds. Hence, why keeping Cesc actually makes none to little sense at the club. I can't see him going, who would offer him a better package? No one, so he stays put! He's a definite starter next season, perhaps even the new captain. Worst case, because he can't walk the talk! I would also sell him in a heartbeat, but we have to accommodate the team for him. A man can hope, but most likely either Oscar or Matic will be still around, so it's important that we get the third man Mr. X right. chelseafan26
Popular Post! LondonsFinest 692 Posted April 25, 2016 Popular Post! Marchisio and Vidal have the workrate of a horse and the tackling ability to be able to grant Pirlo the space he needed to operate and string the game. Can Fabregas do that? Yes, he can. Because he does it, when he isn't pressured by opponents. How can he do it? When we buy a proper technical CM( Naingollan) and keep Matic(on-form) or buy the X midfielder who is in the same mould as Naingollan and they grant Fabregas the freedom to dictate play. I'm not saying he is Pirlo, no. BUT, Pirlo was and is a defensive liability. The fact he played the DM role was a pure tactical choice, so that he is the maestro in the orchestra. AWorriedChelseaFan, kellzfresh, Tomo and 5 others

We tried that with by Ivanovic covering our lack of physicality in midfield. We tried that with Azpilicueta covering for Hazard's lack of defensive mentality and for covering Terry's lack of pace. And here we are, having our worst season in a very long time. We are facing a massive rebuilding of the squad because of this mentality. We ditched KdB because he didn't have a place in this "system", because Mourinho's number 10 role was build on the basis of covering for other midfielders and attackers. In modern football you need to have complete players in order to succeed. If we are actually planning on winning something, Fabregas cannot be our main midfield playmaker. Nevertheless, it is good that he is performing now. Maybe that'll add couple more millions to his price-tag in the summer. Fabregas won't leave, UNLESS Conte dislikes his way of playing/training and ditches him. 2. The fact Mourinho tried to cope with certain liabilities with the wrong players is solely Mourinho's problem. We are talking about a man who had the same problem before and dealt with it, quite up to the level needed by deploying players to help him out. 3. The examples are pretty naive, as Terry has been losing pace, as has Ivanovic, but that didn't show last season. It was Mourinho's stubborness to replace his favourite right-back that caused us problems early on and most probably the clash of attitudes, not the covering for liabilities. 4. As I pointed out, if you watch pretty closely, Conte didn't expect Pirlo to be a playmaker or at least the sole one. He had players in midfield who had the technical ability with a ball in their feet to dictate tempo themselves if need be. So THAT is what we should be aiming for. Not 2 workhorses who can't do not possess a right side( Matic ).
DYC. 7,542
Cesc plays a good game - he's quality! Cesc plays a bad game - he's crap! Rinse and repeat. The life of a footballer of a player who possesses major strengths and major flaws. I like Cesc. And in my opinion, he's the man most suited to the band in this squad if Terry leaves. But his disappearing act in the big games and his annual half season siestas play heavily against him. Reaching the elite is never happening with him as your best and most important midfielder if you ask me. Miguelito and Peace.
manpe 10,861
I like the idea of him playing the Pirlo role. He can definitely make plays and dictate tempo from deep, but as everybody else has already pointed out, we need certain type of players to accomodate him in that role. Radja and Vidal would be ideal with RLC being a direct backup. Damn, thinking about it... Courtois Azpi - Zouma - Manolas - X(Baba?) Cesc Vidal - Nainggolan Willian - Costa - Hazard  Now that is what I call a team. Miguelito

Their one thing to "cover" for his lack of physicality and his lack of legs in the midfield. Irrespective of that he himself will have to do a "defensive" shift playing the DM in a 3-man midfield. Which includes tracking runners, understanding the defensive part of the game etc etc. I would love playing against this team. Absolutely Love it. I can already see the likes of Stoke and WHU countering us by continously targetting Cesc positional awareness as well as the same of Zouma and Manolas (really?. rather have Andreas and/or Cahill for another season). You can literally imagine Payet and Arnautovic rubbing their hands in glee seeing cesc's name in the DM position. I think people have the mentality that things simply cant go any worse the next season. Try Playing with Cesc as a DM (even with Vidal and Radja to "cover" for him) and we have a worse season on our hands. And not because we sold our future or not because the board did not spend the money, but simply because we trusted the most important position on the football field to the worst suited man possible. I am going to pray and hope that Conte simply is not thinking along the same lines as yours. Honestly, I will be devastated. manpe

Nevertheless, it is good that he is performing now. Maybe that'll add couple more millions to his price-tag in the summer. Yes it can work, and there have been many examples. Ronaldo at United (I'm not saying Cesc is on that level) had a complete free role in his late years there, do you know how Fergie countered that so there wouldn't be a chink for opposition to exploit? Two defensive minded midfielders, even at home vs wank sides, and it worked. Lampard in his prime, we had Essien, Maka and even Ballack doing the dirty work so he could get his twenty goals a season, although ageing was also a big factor Lampard constantly bombing forward became more of a hindrance than a help after those player's left (or in Essiens case completely fell off a cliff). The point is Cesc gives us qualities that no one (realistically attainable) in world football can give us, do you remember 13/14 when we were completely clueless in breaking down packed defenses? Cesc changed all that, it's not always the assists its his sharp thinking that catches defenses unorgonaized and gives us genuine opportunities, compared to 13/14 were Rami and Mikel would make a bad choice or slow the play down giving the team the chance to regroup. Captain Ahmed 528
SHOULD CESC FABREGAS SUCCEED JOHN TERRY AS THE NEXT CHELSEA CAPTAIN? Quote  With this dramatic season drawing to a close, current Chelsea captain John Terry has so far not been offered a new deal by the club he’s been at since he was young. A decision which has baffled Chelsea fans as he still one of the divisions most prolific centre backs. With a new era at Chelsea on the horizon a lack of experience and leadership in the squad has been highlighted by many fans and pundits. With Terry’s contract situation remaining unclear and an extension looking increasingly unlikely is Cesc Fabregas the man too take the armband under incoming boss Antonio Conte? After receiving a huge amount of criticism after the departure of Jose Mourinho, rumours persisted Fabregas himself, Eden Hazard and Diego Costa were the main men in Mourinho’s undoing. Fabregas and his team mates took huge responsibility for Mourinho’s dismissal. A shocking defence of the title and Fabregas only registered one assist in the league under Mourinho and he was evidently disappointed with his own form. Guus Hiddink came in and Chelsea went 14 games unbeaten under the Dutchman. Fabregas and the rest of the Chelsea team rectified their early season woes and have now got themselves in a respectable league position after a horrendous start to the season. Fabregas has been at the forefront of the revival and the mid season crisis leading from the front with his experience and his consistency since the turn of the year. With one assist and no goals in the league under Mourinho Fabregas was enduring a poor season after having a superb one in his debut season. When Hiddink was appointed he earmarked Fabregas as one of his most important and influential players; wanting him coming deep collecting the ball and spraying it all over the pitch. That’s a role he enjoys doing and did on numerous occasions during his time at Arsenal. An instrumental performance against Crystal Palace in the first game of 2016 kick-started his season and he realised he was crucial in getting Chelsea further in the cup competitions and climbing higher in the league. Fabregas scored his first premier league goal of the season in a thrilling 3-3 draw with Everton and also registered his second assist. His role within the side was ever increasing as injuries to key players ruled them out of important games during the season. A goal against Southampton was followed by a fantastic brace in the London derby at home to West Ham taking his tally to the season to four in the league. But his most impressive attribute in the games was his pass completion rate and chances created for his team mates representing his importance in the side. His defending and tackling has also been ever improved under Hiddink. Fabregas turned in a stunning performance just last weekend against Bournemouth with three wonderful assists. His vision, precision and perfection of the passes were exceptional to say the least. These stats and performances over the past few months have undermined his influence in this Chelsea side. Fabregas is a huge contender for the next Chelsea captain due to many other players leaving the club in the near future. John Terry seems set to leave but it is important Chelsea keep him around the club because of his passion and desire and most importantly his experience. Branislav Ivanovic the current vice captain has performed poorly this season and is on wrong side of the 30 and will he fit into Conte’s plans? Rumours have circulated he may be set to leave with Chelsea interested in another defenders. So that leaves Fabregas as the most experienced man in the dressing room, having captained Arsenal at a relatively young age. His passion for Chelsea is unquestionable, after firing home a brace against West Ham he pointed to the badge and really got involved with the crowd getting them roaring on the team. That’s a sign of willingness and commitment to a club and is fantastic to see; fans absolutely love to see it and players ultimately thrive off it. In a guest appearance on Monday Night Football just last week Fabregas expressed his desire in wanting Leicester to win the league and not Tottenham. A sight which Chelsea fans loved to hear. He also lead from the front in saying he and his team mates let Jose Mourinho down and said that the players relaxed too often and Mourinho also trusted them too much. Real character shown from Fabregas in coming out and admitting everyone let Mourinho down can only help his chances of being a candidate for the next skipper. Ultimately it’s down to Conte determining whether Fabregas is the right man for the job if John Terry is to leave the club. Fabregas has done his chances no harm in the past months, playing up to his expectations, leading from the front, showing his passion and willingness and ultimately portraying his strong character on and off the field. So Chelsea fans would you like to see Fabregas named as the next Chelsea captain? talkchelsea.net
