The only place to be 11,313
No more use of the whole "we are in transition" crap that people have been using as a get out clause when things go wrong. How exactly is it crap? Are we the finished article? Do we have a solid spine throughout the team, or are we still building one (with the acquisition of Matic and hopefully Costa)? Are we still trying to shift dead wood like Mikel and Torres? How exactly are we not in transition?
Nike 373
Title contention is a must, however, City team is fantastic this season and will be better next season (unless they get the hammer from FFP). City should be the only team I can accept doing better than us next season and if Arsenal actually buys marque players in the summer. But not United, Liverpool or the Spurs. How exactly are we not in transition? So when do we still finish transition? If in another two years we still don't win the title are we still going to say that we are in transition becuase it tries to deflect the fact that we have spent this season over £60 million pounds on players (as well as the season before that where spent another £50 million pounds on Oscar and Hazard who have been used for the majority of this season ?and will probably be part of this spine) as well as the millions we will be spending this summer. But whatever, we now will be having a summer transfer which will probably be using another £50 million+ pounds that will be spent on players that Mourinho wants. All that money on ready made players that should be producing results instantly. Next season we can not use the transition argument becuase with 3-4 transfer windows past and the amount of money spent (as well as the money spent in the summer of 2012) there is only one way to justify all that money spent, winning the title. The only place to be 11,313
So when do we still finish transition? For me it's once the manager has had a chance to build the team he wants. We've had midfield problems for YEARS and no striker worth his place since Drogba left. Now we actually have something approaching a decent midfield (Matic) and hopefully a proper striker (Costa). The squad has had a year under Jose to learn what he wants and they'll hopefully go on from there.

That excuse finishes this season imoIt's way too early for this thread IMO.I think it is pretty clear what the expectations are of the board-title or sack. We literally cannot have another trophy less season.
nadavTKL 1,787
I think its obvious, not winning the title next season would be a big failure. It doesnt mean Roman should sack Jose, but it will be a failure for Jose and he would say the same. It will be the 2nd season for him, we'll get the players he wants, its nothing like this season. it must end with the title imo. i dont think we should be too stressed out about that though... we have the right man to count on. The Rising Sun 711
Ah, the Brendan Rodgers 'I only want us to win one way' type of football. Are we going to write letters to our opponents so they let us do that? Why do I get the feeling that you view 'tactical wins' in a negative light? Were the 12 points we got off of Man City and Liverpool not to your liking? Not only do you want a league and cup double, but you want it won in a certain way....unbelievable. I'd be happy with progression and us acquiring players in the positions we need them. I think if we do that then the league is very much in our reach. I'd like to see the squad reshaped to better reflect what Jose wants and get rid of some of the deadwood. The reason i put tactical in " " , was to say that there is nothing wrong with being tactically set up. But less buses next year. Thats all.The 12 points we got off City and Liverpool were to my liking, but the way we got them can be better, and we have done it many seasons ago with Jose and Carlo, and drogba. We can win convincingly again, and that is why i said i hope the new players complete the puzzle for Jose, and we can be set up to play a little more in some of these games, rather than bus it.Progression and deadwood sold will give us the chance to think differently next season. The only thing i disagree with you is that yes, i would like us to win the league next year, and win it in a certain style. What is so unbelievable about that? We can play much better and dictate a little more than we have done this season. We wont play like Liverpool/city. and we shouldnt, but we can surely find a middle ground between our general gameplay and that of City/Liverpool this season. That itself will be enough to win us the league. And finally. we can stop using the transition argument next season onwards. Henrique 9,133
I just hope, if we dont win anything, that RA doesnt do anything stupid. We need Jose Mourinho to stay for some time, we need a team built with some sort of consistency. I think you just said at one point with no doubt, that Mourinho will turn the team into world beaters again next season.
Henrique 9,133
For me its pretty obvious: there is no going back for Mourinho after his excuses this season. Basically he said the entire season that we would not win the PL because we lacked a "real striker". He will have money and time to get who he needs. He had time to get to know the squad, and to understand what need to be done. It seems he likes to measure the success comparing with the previous season:-UCL semi-finals.-2nd/3rd in PL.So my expectations are:-UCL semi-final at lest.-1st/2nd on PL.If Mourinho fail again next season in the way he did this season, I doubt he will be here for 2014/15 season. Roman didn't hire a manager to turn Chelsea into the most hated club in the world, enemies of football, known for parking the bus and getting no results for that. BlueSunshine 672
Of course i would love us to win a title next year, but i am not that optimistic. I believe that we need to start from more basic stuff, in order to be able to do what Jose said when he came back and that is to build the new Chelsea for the next decade.Personally i will be happy if for the next season we create a team that can string two passes together and is actually enjoyable to watch while at the same time we promote more youth players to the first team and introduce some others like Courtois and Lukaku.
