Bidding war for whom? Varane or Hummels? Because I can't see any reason why Chelsea would be stupid enough to pay that money for Hummels. He is damn overrated and slow as fuck. Terry at 34 would beat him in a 100m race.

Varane is much worse defender. He cant defend as good and his opening passes are just woeful.

He has a long way to go, but in Real the last months hes been pathetic to the extrem

Have you guys actually seen varane this season?

he hasn't been world class at all...

He hasn't been at his best this season but under Mourinho he was great. He 's 21 years old so ofcourse he's not worldclass yet but he definitely has the potential to be and he's already a great defender.

Also how many worldclass defenders are there atm ? Not a lot i'd say. Most of them are either nearing 30 or are simply impossible to get.

For me he's the best option to replace Terry in the long run.

The state of defenders this days is that I don't know who to consider world-class.

For example, one of the elite defender this season, I mean a top 5, is Naldo. Last season was Benatia. Godin was clearly the best in 2014. Boateng, Hummels, the guys who are ticking bombs and can explode any time are widely regarded as a world-class defenders.

Maybe now Varane is not at its best moment, but when Jose was at Real Madrid he had a totally spectacular level.

I think Varane is having a good performance this season. Not having the level when Jose was at Real Madrid, but its level is good despite having only 21 years. Varane Perhaps the problem is that he has been backup Ramos and Pepe, and Varana has just started playing when they have been injured. A moment that coincided with the worst level of Real Madrid this season.

Real Madrid is a totally anarchic team. When results are bad, their offensive players defend absolutely nothing and the computer breaks. Being Centre-Back at Real Madrid is crazy with them have bad results.

If Varane would ask to leave, that is the only option anyone could get him, but he probably wont pass up the chance to be Real's no 1 CB in 2-3 seasons max. I think a player like him should start every game today, not to wait that long.

There arent many CBs as good as him but thats the reality, Real have 3 world class CBs.

And Varane a player able to get the ball taken from behind, with great quality with the ball and tactical intelligence. PERFECT EVERYTHING.

So why did he sigend a contract in last September? maybe he thought this season will be different?

Last season he started 17 games while Pepe and Ramos started 50+, this season he started 25, Pepe 32 and Ramos 33. Would this season be the last straw for him and he would ask for a move in a few months? i doubt it.

At the beginning of the season everyone in Madrid was convinced that Varane was going to be indisputable for Real Madrid this season. That is the main account of his renewal of his contract.

But Pepe has had an unexpected performance this and everything has changed for Varane. Varane feels betrayed by Real Madrid.

There have been several problems in Real Madrid and Pepe for some has acted as a leader. Pepe is now an important man, unquestionable.

Rght now has become clear that Varane is third choice. Varane is going to allow continue to be Real Madrid third option? Absolutely NO.

While he is talented, I dont see terry, puyol, thuram etc in the making in today football. Defenders got just so worse in comparison with past 10-20 years.

If he is available for fair price yes, but wouldnt go over the top. But I dont want us have two kids in central defense in zouma-varane, while signing varane would also definately stall zouma progress.

Someone more experienced would suit us more now. Who that is I dunno. But dont forget, we dont need to target absolutely best defenders, bayern signed dante and boateng when they were bang average and look how they turned out.
