Jase 43,479
Hmm, but who is a 100% favorite of Mourinho? Ivanovic? Ramires? Probably Costa too. He would never drop Hazard, even though sometimes he doesn't do much defensive work, and I don't think he's a 100% favorite of Mourinho. IMO, Mourinho can appreciate offensive players. As long as their contribution offensively outweighs their defensive limitations, it can be okay. But Andre's error clearly pissed Jose off. There are two ways to define the untouchables in this case; one is that a certain player is the best amongst those playing in the same position and another is those not the best and actually be switched with another player but Mourinho is (perhaps?) reluctant to do so. And Ivanovic falls into the latter category. I know he has been great going forward this season and offers us extra threat in set pieces and even a target from GKs but how can he continue to start games after making so many defensive errors is beyond me. Had that been another player, he would probably be spending the next 3 months sitting on the bench! The Chels
nate91 36
Why the hell is this guy not starting yet? He is clearly one of our best attacking players, as well as Germany. The man just knows how to attack and score goals. I don't get how Jose chooses to start a guy like Ramires every game who is so one dimensional and can't pass for shit, but we have Andre on the bench who always delivers. Makes no sense. And yes, I know they are different positions but Schurrle is so effective and is reserved for the bench, meanwhile, Ramires is ineffective and starts every match. mikeholiday 209
Andre was poor against Swansea and it was actually Ramires who changed the game.
Henrique 9,133
No, I'm sorry. I refuse to blame the goal on an attacked getting beat too easily in the final third. I can blame him for not tracking back, for not making the effort to defend, but for trying to defend and getting beat by the opposition attacker, I don't blame him for that.Like Jose said, if it was Ramires, then you can blame him for that, but with Schurrle you can't expect him to defend 1vs1 and win.But why was he left to defend the wing all alone? Why was our attacker left isolated in defense when we had the numerical advantage on the pitch? Why was Ivanovic out of position to start with and then just stands in his place for about 20 seconds just ball watching?Btw, that movement for his goal is absolutely world class. You are one of his fans. His goal was far from world class, even Torres would have scored that.Modern football is wingers are required to defend as well. He was not defending alone, he was poor defensively from the first minute he arrived on the pitch.

Give him credit.A defenders job is also to defend and Brana was nowhere to be found. Andre is not totally at fault.

He was not defending alone, he was poor defensively from the first minute he arrived on the pitch. Watch the goal again. He actually starts on the right side next to Eden, then he makes a great horizontal run to the opposite side when the ball moves right, and then times his run at the far post to perfection that he is still ahead of Mangala but not offside. That is the kind of striker movement that coaches try to teach to young kids in academies. I don't think anyone in our squad, bad Costa, would have scored that goal. You are right, winger are expected to defend, and Schurrle did. But he is not expected to defend the wing all by himself. He is after all an attacker. He's even originally a striker. You can't expect him to get isolated 1vs1 against an opposition attacker and win the duel. If he does then that is something extra. But he did his job by being there and trying his best to defend.Plus, why all the hate for Andre? Still upset about those two goals he scored against you? iseah100
Daniel1980 1,425
That run was really world class and it wasn't the easiest goal. The problem with Andre is, he can be selfish at times, and sometimes shoots when he should pass, and he is inconsistent. While Willian is consistently average most of the time, Andre can be either brilliant or poor. iseah100 and MrExcalibur100

Good game for Andre overall.I love it how he tries really hard to score and create something.

Sheva. 5,373
If he plays on the left, he will always cut in and shoot. Like someone said during the game, there's a reason he had the most shots in Bundesliga in his last season at Leverkusen.Normally though he would score with all those chances, but it wasn't happening for him and he kept trying to force it.Anyway I still hope he starts against Villa - for the attacking threat he provides over Willian... but i don't think it's likely since the latter will be fresher. The Skipper 20,609
Had an off day in regards to final decisions in the last moments before a chance. Could've easily scored like a hat trick today.
Jase 43,479
Was perhaps trying too hard to impress Mourinho after he was (unfairly) solely blamed for the goal conceded against City. But hey, at least, not all of his shots were completely wayward. On another day, he could have had easily scored 2-3 goals if it weren't for the keeper and some last ditched blocks. Obviously was trying very hard to impress after being criticized, though it was abit annoying how the players were shooting from outside of the box, especially when there wasn't a few goals lead.I don't mind if it was 3-0 up and everyone is having a go, but not when it's 0-0 or 1-1. Bolton's defense were pretty much inviting for it though with the way they backed off. didierforever
BlueKing 46
I am getting this feeling about Schurrle. Something is missing. Something I can't put my finger on it.. but when it clicks. I don't know why but I am thinking of Lampard during his first two seasons or Drogba during his first two seasons. Not in the style of the player but in the.. almost.. almost feeling. Something is yet to click. 3rd season is the charm. I really hope that I'm right. Sidzeret, Bir_CFC and mikeholiday
