Players You're Gutted We Never Signed

Remember when Carlo wanted to sign Pirlo in 2010, and we all thought he had lost the plot..

As amazing as pirlo is, he wouldn't be half the player he is in the PL. He thrives on the time he gets on the ball in deep positions, which for some unknown reason, teams in Italy keep giving him. Having said all that, I would still take him at Chelsea in a heart beat.

Didn't know this at the the time but..

Maldini also revealed he rejected big money moves from some of Europe’s top sides during his time at San Siro.

“Juventus wanted me, while Gianluca Vialli called me to Chelsea in 1996, but I preferred to stay with Milan to recover from a disastrous year."

Marco Van Basten + Marc Overmats - amazing players ;)

Arsenal had a great team then!

Also right now we need to find the next Vierra ;)

Didn't Van Basten train with our squad for a couple of weeks in the mid-90s. Would've been a few years after he retired.

That reminded me that George Weah played for us for a while - might start a new thread with 'players you're surprised you forgot played for us'.

Have to throw Paul Parker in there too. That was a random one.

I think you're being a little unfair on Pirlo. Pirlo is great at finding spaces, its one of the main parts of his game.

Imagine him right now in this team though? Would solve all of our DLP problems. He still is probably the best in his role atm, apart from someone like Xavi probably.

Like said, I would take him in a heart beat, but I don't expect him to be as successful here as in the serie A. I don't think I'm being unfair, I'm a Juve fan, I love Pirlo, but I also know his style very well.

For the record, Pirlo would never work in the double pivot. He doesn't have the defensive work rate for it. He also never runs, he just floats across the pitch :P

Oh and Fabio Cannavaro of course.

Oh dear, Cannavaro! Remember his performances during the 2006 World Cup? Drogba in the last Champions League campaign aside, it is definitely the best individual performance I have ever witnessed.

He would've been a great asset. Of course that would've meant one of Carvalho/Terry would have been displaced, but he wouldn't have harmed us by any means.
