I think there are always enough managers/presidents who are looking at some star player and thinking "this guy was good and now he's bad because it's this Club's/coach's/fans' fault, and with me he'll be back to his old glory days!" Overconfidence, wishful thinking, prestige issues whatever, and because of that there are always enough "wtf were they thinking?!" transfer.
