Jase 43,479
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2182451/Chelsea-bid-Cesar-Azpilicueta-rejected.html?ITO=1490&utm_medium=twitter&utm_source=twitterfeedChelsea have seen their first bid for Marseille full-back Cesar Azpilicueta rejected. The Blues offered just £5.4million for the Spain international, almost £3m below the French club's asking price. They are expected to bid again by the end of week.Last week, the troubled former Ligue 1 champions admitted they would have to sell before they can buy as they look to arrest an alarming slump since they won the title in 2010.The club's sporting director Jose Anigo, said: 'Everybody has to sell before buying. In effect, it could either be (Stephane) M’Bia and Azpi.'Arsenal have previously been linked with a move for the 22-year-old who missed a large portion of the 2010/11 season - his first in France following a move from Osasuna - after suffering knee ligament damage. However he returned to fitness and went on be one of Marseille's most accomplished players, despite those around him struggling.European champions Chelsea have already splashed out more £70m on transfer fees this summer, bringing in a raft of attacking talent, but admitted last week they were still in the market.Chief executive Ron Gourlay said: 'While we ended with a very strong season, it was clear that there were some areas where we did have to strengthen, so we knew we were always going to have to do that.'If the right players become available at the right time, we will sign them. We've done that and we are still continuing to look at one or two positions and we will see how that develops over the next couple of weeks.' Jype 6,398
I'm thinking we should try offering Kakuta in exchange for Azpi, with a little money going their way too of course.

Tricky 301
Offer them £5 million plus Essien or Malouda, that should hopefully be accepted and we can get rid of at least one parasite.WTF? Essien was a beast for us, it's awful to see the guy struggling due to injuries sustained whilst putting it on the line for our club. He deserves respect....Malouda..... Emmm, not a parasite but should certainly be sold.Let's be honest Winston Bogarde they are not

He should be grateful to us for sticking by him for his long and realize he is no longer needed and to stop using us like he is some bloodsucking leech. You know deep down that he and Malouda just want to stay because of high wages they get even if they are hardly play. Like leeches.

Like leeches.and they have every right to stay here. That said seeing as Essiens (and Maloudas?) contracts were signed before the FFP shit, it might be that they really hope they return to form as they won't count towards FFP and that would obviously be a big plus instead of signing a new guy that would. OneMoSalah 8,886
Mad how people are saying while Essien was injured we were shelling out 100k p/w for him or whatever jibberish. Do you honestly think he meant to get injured, ffs seriously, he has been a major player for us since he signed... show him a bit of respect rather than say oh he was costing us 100k p/w while he sat injured for 6 months. Cough up the £3 million and get it done with, isn't hard.

We Hate Scouse 10,326
Meh Maicon would be a better signingI'd agree if it was on a 2 year contract, but if rumours are true and the negotiations did break down because he wanted a long contract then I'm happy. We're not a retirement home.

sleazyB 58
With the FFP looming, he is a perfect signing. Young, talented, could be a real asset when trying to break down those smaller teams. Worse case scenario, he is very average with us, or is injured the whole time and we move him on. Best case scenario we have the Spain NT RB in our squad for years to come. Cough up the rest of the dough and get this done.On the Essien note, let him fulfill his contract, its play money anyways, and his options are being a squad player or coming back as a World class DM. Sounds pretty good to me! Though I would sell him in a heart beat if a semi decent offer came in.
