Oscar

The way he glides through midfield sometimes is a beautiful sight and all these doubters wouldn't be here if we had someone finishing off the chances he created the last couple of games.

He's an amazing talent and I'm glad we have him on a 5 year contract.

I think he has to strengthen his body to get more out of his own potential. Look at Mata or Hazard, they're both approx. as small as Oscar, but they both seem to be more able to push their way through the defensive lines. I'm not impatient with him or anything, just pointing out what he's lacking atm IMO. It's his first season in a top league with 2 matches a week, it's normal he needs some time to adapt. He did that quite well though, but we could not have expected him to continue with these performances. We just have to be patient, in 3-4 years our team will be massive with an attacking midfield consisting of developed Hazard and Oscar and a Mata on top of his carrier.

Gotta say I'm a bit disappointed with his playmaking ability. He somehow fails to impose himself and make our team tick. His passing also disappointed me a few times, though still I feel he has done pretty well since he came considering his age and the jump in the league he took.

His work rate is extraordinary though.

I think Oscar's problem is beyond adaptation to EPL. I mean, he's massive for Brazil even against strong opposition. I feel that he's been misused a bit. He has way less freedom in Chelsea, he drifts a lot across the field for Brazil and that's when he shines.

Besides that, I've seen Oscar creating a lot of chances which have gone to waste because we lack a proper finisher. I feel his assists should be way higher than they are right now.

The problem with Oscar is aboslutely the contrary. He struggles with defensive teams that play physical and compact football. The reason he was so good in UCL was because we faced two open teams that werent afraid of us...

Everyone on the team should have more assists and would if we had better finishing! I agree with some of what you say and some of it can be applied to Hazard as well. At Chelsea, Mata is the #10 and he gets the freedom to roam around the pitch. He deserves that right based on his play. However, this is really also the role that Hazard and Oscar would be best at and the role they're most used to (being the creator/finisher all over the pitch). RDM tried (perhaps at the request of Roman) to play the three of them up front but it didn't work because there was no defensive organization and no width in the attack. I'd like to see more of Oscar in the pivot because I think that's really the only place where he'll maybe be able to get a little bit of freedom and a chance to play.

That's when, IMHO, his movement (and other's movement, like Hazard) can help it the most. Off the ball movement can open spaces to the rest of the team and for himself. Constantly swapping positions confuses the oposition. The games I've seen him doing worse were the games he was limited to a small part of the pitch. Like when he was apparently ordered to fill Hazard role on the left wing. He was woeful in that game.

Do agree, for me the biggest reason why Oscar is not playing his best is mainly due to Hazard and especially Mata occupying his space on the pitch. He is struggling to impose himself on the match because of the other two, where with Brazil he has so much freedom and everyone look for him to playmake.

But i still believe the three of them can still work upfront, time can obviously help with that as the three of them can adjust to each other play. But this will also take the right and creative manager to do so.

But he was in the match against QPR, no Hazard or Mata. He had plenty of space but did not do anything extraordinary. Although I think he is a cracking player.

That was a shit game and so much wrong with it, won't draw any conclusion from that single game.

Doesn't it seem like a 4-3-3 is the best formation for our team and Oscar?

-----------Cech----------

Azpi---Ivanovic--Cahill---Cole

-------Luiz-----Ramires--------

-----------Oscar----------------

-----Hazard----Mata----------

--------------Ba-----------------

This seems like it would work for Oscar because he doesn't seem to be ultra composed when he is in the thick of defense like Mata or Hazard but he is above average, his work rate along with Ramires could make our midfield on of the strongest in the league, fits Hazard and Mata because both a better suited for a central role. Only problem would be width, can we trust Luiz to be tactically disciplined and fill in the spots left open by Ashley and Cesar bombing down the wings?
