Chelsea FC player evaluations 2015/16: Oscar

Chelsea FC have endured a tumultuous season, but how has Oscar fared? Let’s take a moment to evaluate the Brazilian’s performances over the campaign. In a season when Chelsea’s talisman, Hazard, has struggled, Oscar’s Brazilian team-mate Willian has excelled. Oscar should have been the one to lift Chelsea up this season, but wasn’t up to the task. The 2015/16 season essentially sums up Oscar’s time at Chelsea. He goes missing too often and doesn’t seem capable of playing well unless those around him do too.

Predominantly an attacking midfield player, the Brazilian can drop into the centre midfield position to make a tackle, something he appears fond of. A strong tackler with pace, good passing ability and a terrific shot sounds like a perfect central midfielder for the Blues. For some reason Oscar has been unable to put his abilities together and be a consistent performer over the course of a whole season.

Don't worry he's gone.

we should get the genius coutinho to replace him. Have you seen what he did against Sevilla today?! A joy to behold!

But Oscar is Brazil's #10 wonderkid! -_-

@Styles

Are you new here?:)

seriously though, despite oscar having not delivered at Chelsea, which is something anyone can agree with, before he joined us he was one the most promising CAMs in the world - videos and numbers are there.

he was a VERY different player then: extremely creative and not hard working at all - ironically people used to say that was his deficiency.

Matters not at this point. It would be too risky to wait for him to wake up in the coming seasons - need to try something different.

just not coutinho...;)

Sky Sports-Oscar wants to stay at Chelsea and prove himself under Antonio Conte

Quote

Oscar has revealed to Sky Sports News HQ the extent of his frustration at a lack of playing time this season but insists he wants to stay at Chelsea and prove himself under new manager Antonio Conte. The 24-year-old Brazil international has made 20 Premier League starts after an early-season injury and is reportedly attracting interest from a host of top European clubs including Juventus. But, speaking ahead of their penultimate game of the season at Liverpool, live on Sky Sports 2 HD on Wednesday night, Oscar says Conte's arrival is a clean slate for the entire Chelsea squad.

"It's been very difficult for me," Oscar told Sky Sports News HQ. "I had a great season last season, and I'm coming from two or three seasons of doing well, but I was one of those players who got injured at the start of the season."When I came back, the team wasn't doing so well and I found myself on the bench and in and out of the first team. I didn't achieve the level I wanted to achieve but hopefully next season I can do better."[The new manager's arrival] is great for the players. Obviously you have to prove yourself. I'm sure the coach has been following all the players individually."It will be a breath of fresh air to the team and everyone's excited to prove their worth to be here. Obviously I haven't been very happy because I haven't been playing very much but, with the new coach coming in, it's a fresh beginning for everyone."

I certainly don't think he's been good the past couple of seasons, but I'm not ready to write him off just yet.  I think he's better suited to a no. 8 type role, as opposed to a 10.  He's a much better central midfielder rather than a second striker.

Unless the bid is outrageous, I'd be okay with keeping him, for at least 1 season under Conte.

You may think he's more suited to the no.8 role than no.10 but that still doesn't change the fact that he hasn't shown any improvement and consistency in any way in his 4 years here.

He has been wearing the 8 and playing like an 8 for quite some time.

people here have a difficulty with the notion that he is an 8 playing in a more advanced position.

and that Oscar does not fit the mold elf what a true 10 ought to be - something Oscar isn't ironically - does not play or wear 10 for Brazil either btw.

he's been poor, but I think the hate he gets around here has more to do with preferences and the team setup than Oscar himself.

if Oscar is Mikel like why is Mikel a 9mi buy and Oscar north of 20mi?

He gets hate because he hasn't improved in any facet of his game.

Oscar is like Mikel, he just doesn't seem interested in becoming a 'better' player, he tries when he feels like it.
