TacticalBlues 2,817
Oscar’s the new Ossie By TERRY VENABLES CHELSEA fans have been waiting years for a new Ossie to come along and he has finally arrived.Of course, there will only be one real Ossie. The late great Peter Osgood will always take pride of place in Blues’ hearts everywhere. But Oscar has shown he has the potential to be his modern-day equivalent. The Brazilian midfielder may have been born on a different continent in another era and play a different position but he has plenty in common with the undisputed King of Stamford Bridge. Not least his talent, work-rate and the fact he does not look like a footballer.I remember when I first saw Ossie. I was a player at Chelsea and he turned up at training for a trial after his Uncle Bob had written to the club asking them to take a look at him.As this rangy teenager walked over, we all thought “Who’s this kid?” Then he got on the ball.We all looked at each other as if to say: “Blimey, where has he been hiding?”He was unbelievable. You could tell from that first day he was going to be a star, even if his physique and looks said otherwise. It is the same with Oscar. With his wiry frame and youthful looks, he would not get the part of playing a footballer in a Hollywood film. But while looks can deceive, talent can not.And Oscar, like Osgood, has it in abundance. That was highlighted by the way he took his goal against Shakhtar on Wednesday.Less talented stars would have taken several touches to despatch the Donetsk keeper’s poor headed clearance into the net from 40 yards. Oscar needed just one. And the way he opened his body and swung his foot across the ball to do so was very Osgood-esque.I am sure my old pal looking down from above would have appreciated that piece of technique.I remember seeing him score a fantastic individual effort at Turf Moor when Burnley were in their pomp.He must have beaten their whole defence before sticking the ball in the net with customary aplomb. And remember pitches back then were not the bowling greens they are now. But Ossie had fantastic control and technique, like Oscar has now. And both are not afraid to do the dirty work.Sometimes you find that showmen only want to perform in the spotlight. But Oscar, despite his attacking flair, does not mind working backstage as well. He is willing to track back and tuck in for the benefit of the team.Ossie was the same. Yes he loved the tricks and flicks and champagne finishes, but he could go ugly.In Chelsea’s infamous battles with Leeds, he would often be the Blues’ torchbearer. If a battle had to be won, Ossie would be the first into enemy territory.I’m not saying Oscar is a Chopper Harris. But he is not a prima donna, even if sometimes his footwork and skills are as sweet as a ballerina. The way he and Eden Hazard have supported Juan Mata this season is a joy to behold. Mata was named the Premier League’s Player of the Month for October last week. He’s been outstanding for Chelsea in recent weeks. And Hazard continues to shine despite tailing off slightly following his blistering start to the campaign. But for me it is Oscar who is the most intriguing and arguably most exciting prospect. The 21-year-old from Sao Paulo has as much potential as he does ability.Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich must be delighted. He always wanted his team to win the Champions League and play with style.Having doggedly fought their way to glory in Munich in May, Roberto Di Matteo’s men are now performing with panache. So much so that, despite their recent home defeat to Manchester United, you cannot see them losing at Liverpool tomorrow. They now have the capacity to be exciting and entertaining as well as efficient.Credit for that must go to RDM and his players. The word “legend” is much over-used these days.Osgood deserved to wear the tag. And if Oscar continues to progress, it may not be long before he is mentioned in the same breath. Muzchap, Sheva. and Dion

Land 331
So tired of the "x player is better than y because of a YouTube video" argument, anyway this is Oscar's thread and not Lucas', so let's stop Muzchap

Yeboii 1,844
Im not going to answer back with youtube videos of Oscar because we all know(or should know) that they only show the great parts. 2-6 minutes of a whole fucking season. DH1988 1,348
Until Moura comes to the EPL and within a few weeks slots himself into one of the leagues top teams as one of the first names on the teamsheet you simply cannot compare the two as, AT THIS POINT, Moura is unproven. BlueLyon 9,359
Moura is good dribbler and all, but Oscar is so versatile; passing, dribbling, shooting, crossing, defending. I can say that Oscar will be greater player than Lucas.
The Skipper 20,609
People only say Moura is better because he's a bit more flashy - Oscar is definitely the better player. Who starts for Brazil almost every game from the two? That's right, Oscar does, not Lucas. Barbara
Hutcho 8,443
oscar is currently the better player and will become even better... He has it all and is no.10 for brazil. That says everything you need to know.
Rmpr 8,977
Oscar is much better than Lucas. End of story...You can ask any Brazilian sports journalist, they will say it is Neymar > Oscar > Lucas. Both come from Sao Paulo`s Academy and Oscar was always the one treated as the pure gem, the next Kaka, etc. Also, Oscar wears the famous Brazilian n10 jersey, Lucas is not even in the starting lineup. They are all gret, but Oscar is better by a mile. Not only the skills make a good footballer. Oscar has the talent, the IQ and the character! bababoom and Term-X
Jase 43,479
Seems that people just can't help themselves these days to compare one of our players with someone else. Anyway, please stay on topic and not turn this into an 'Oscar v Moura' thread!
Madmax 9,219
Mano Menezes - "Let's just say Oscar is Brazil's no.10 ... and we don't give that shirt to just anybody."Says it all. Rmpr, Peace. and BlueLyon

Jcar92 66
Guys... I want to be clear at first... After Neymar, Oscar is my favorite player at the moment... But this is crazy. I understand the hapiness with Oscar since he is exhaling class with our shirt, but, are you guys really saying that Oscar is way better without the transition of Lucas Moura to Europe?I'm not somebody that see Lucas just in youtube videos. In Brazil, i support Corinthians, the rival of SĂŁo Paulo Futebol club, and still, i say that this guy, Moura, is damn dangerous. He is not just the drible, not anymore. And even when he was starting, he still had the pass, the mobility, the positioning to receive passess or chances outside of the area and shoot. Now, he gained experience, he defends and also helps to orchestrate the game. He has the same good characteristic of Oscar, he shows his best at hard times, against big rivals.I live here, this saying that Oscar was more hyped than him is wrong... Just now that he is in Chelsea. And Didier Drogba LA-la-La-LA-la-La, you're brazilian, you know that Lucas don't play because of the stubbornness of Mano Menezes, just like with Dunga... Pato wasn't called, but we know that Grafite is not better that him. Everyone ask for Neymar in one side with Lucas in the other. And to be true, our diamond just received the 10 because Ganso was injured and this number is, year for year, in brazil, given to the player that has the role to orchestrate the game, the AMF. The best player is Neymar... And while Oscar showed his skills in the sub-20 world cup, Moura was at the American Cup with the principal team, they thought that Moura was more ready. And of course today Oscar is put above Lucas now. He made the move to europe and didn't struggle, is learning new things.... I'm not saying that Lucas is better, but, saying that Oscar is ten times Lucas is just wrong... Psg people don't paid this crazy amount for nothing.Of course, i don't think that his price was correct, but still... He seems to have a good future.Well, he's coming, let's see how well he will develop. I Just hope for good football. Stats

Good player, but kinda one trick pony in my book. So, I tend to agree with Brazil management about Lucas' role in the national team.Oscar IMO is a sure starter for Brazil... while Lucas is debatable. They don't play in the same position as Lucas to me is a pure attacker, he can't track back or play in the middle.

First of all, It is Rmpr not Dider Drogba Lalalala...Second, have you ever been to Cotia training ground? Muricy went there severall times just to see Oscar. Nobody is saying Lucas isnt great, no team pays 44million for a bad player, he is very good (alright, we pay 44million for a bad player, but that is another discussion). You cant deny Oscar was way more hyped, every youngster coach new about him when he was 15, not about former Marcelinho though.Third, dont tell me Hulk havent won fairly his place. Yes, back at the Olympics everybody wanted to see Lucas, but the places have changed. Hulk totally deserved his starting place. Oscar on the other hand, just make Ganso look stupid. Ganso did not lived up to the expectations, Oscar did.Fourth, I think you are misinderstanding. Nobody said he wont succeed or he is not inteligent or he is one dimensional. We are only saying Oscar is better (at least for now).Enough with Moura vs Oscar, lets just concentrate on Oscar here!
