Luke Shaw

by that logic we should pay 35 million for a 16 yo or 50 miilion for a 13 yo ,, not fair that im 76 ,

Yes it does, if that player goes straight into our first XI.

18 years old, at a minimum he'll have 12 years where he'll be a starting caliber player. If we pay 25M for him, that's an FFP hit of approx. 2M/yr.

In comparison, hypothetically if you were to pay 15M for a 25 y/o starting caliber LB. That's 3M/yr for him. Even though the fee is 10M less for him, the age makes a huge difference and still tips it in favour of Shaw.

And rightly so, in my opinion.

We're in the same position United are. Aging LB who's past his best and will likely be gone in the summer. Couldn't be a more perfect buy for us. He's a Chelsea supporter, he's young, and he's English. Everything falls in line with the new philosophy of the club.

Would be terrible if United get him instead of us. Especially if they miss out on top 4.

The only reason I would want him here is because he's English and can replace our core of English players that we lack beyond Terry, Cole and Lampard. Otherwise, I don't really care if we get him or not. There are still some other quality left backs out there, not just Shaw.

(And was just wondering if people would slam Shaw the same way they did with Mata for showing "no love or loyalty to the club" should he joins United instead...)

What young quality left backs are on the market?

Only one I can think off with the same class as Shaw at such a young age is Digne but he went to PSG and I doubt he would want to move already... or that it wouldn't be even more expensive. Great full backs in general seems to be a rarity these days.

Rodriguez, Moreno etc perhaps. I said before, I actually don't care which LB we get in as long as they are quality and can be great for us. Shaw is arguably one of those as well and the fact he's English just tips it off for me. Otherwise, whoever is fine.

He also expensive.....

Like @Pizy said, it's the philosophy of the club. :P

Seriously speaking though, does it really matter if the price for this lad is £15m, £20m or even £25m? We're in a need of a quality left-back sooner or later and if Jose and the board think Shaw is good enough and feel he can contribute on a very high level for close to 15 years, it will always be looked back as a bargain once he goes in around 2029 or something like that, much like Rio Ferdinand at the cunts. For the FFP it hardly matters if the transfer fee is a few million higher or lower because the fee will be amortised for the length of the contract and an 18-year-old like Shaw wouldn't be getting all that much in terms of wages either. The annual book value for Shaw at £25m and £40k a week is pretty close to buying someone else for around £10m with wages of £80k a week, which is pretty much what even average players in their prime demand these days.

Getting Shaw or the lad from Wolfsburg is a must. Rodriguez is probably at the moment better than Luke but it would be nice to see Shaw here instead of Manchester United so I don't know...

1.) We sell Mata to united

2.) Rooney stays at united

3.) United gets shaw because they offer more

4.) United buys another CM and CB in summer

United will screw us big time I feel.

All because Mou sticks head in United ass and sells them top player. No matter the situation, club like us should never sell to rivals (and we never realy did).

As for Shaw goes, he will end up in united, I can see it...he is an option for us, but United will be desperate and they will throw 30 odd mio and buy him...

If they hadn't have bought Mata, they'd have bought another quality attacking midfielder. They'll bounce back from where they are now, its inevitable.

As for Shaw, he knows one day that we'll come knocking at his door. If hes as much of a Chelsea fan as people say he is, he will wait for us to.

Do you really need to spam the most popular threads?, why not just post in the pub or in the clearly titled 'Announcements, Feedback & Support' section?

People just clicked on this thread thinking there has been an update on the saga, a new bit of analysis or opinion. Instead, they got that..

Juan Mata.

That wasn't his decision, under this circumstances he had to go... Do you think if united bid 40M in the summer and club told mata they accepted that, do you think he would left? I don't think so, he loved this club, i'm just sad he refused to fight for place properly, as some of squad members did.

Mata, in line to make his debut against Cardiff City on Tuesday, is expected to be the only major arrival at Old Trafford in the January window despite their extensive search for new players. United's information is that Luke Shaw, the Southampton left-back, would prefer a move to Chelsea and the club's scouting of Internazionale's Fredy Guarín has left them unsure about exactly how good the midfielder is.
