the excuses people are putting in is just laughable.

bastian is a world class player. period.

he might have had some injuries for the last 2 seasons but doubting "how good he can be in prem" is a joke. the guy is a beast. this is a brilliant short term signing for united.

they needed a RB so that they could play their wingers as a winger.

they needed character in mid as well as quality.

they needed pacy wingers (depay).

all they need is a CB and replacement GK (if ddg leaves).

They already had 2 rbs on their squad and when healthy and tempered controlled, Raphael smokes both of them.

I love bastian, but I don't think bastian is what united needed.

Depay I see more of a second striker player, similar to how Reus and Ronaldo play now. Depay could start off on the left wing, but essentially would be in the middle than be an out and out winger.

THey need a dm. Carrick is old and bound to get hurt again and Blind is blind.

United and Arsenal got big names, but the overall weaknesses still haven't improved much.

I hope he wont have same effect like Ballack did for us.

But Ballack was year younger, in MUCH better shape and with huge desire to win titles. Schweini won everything and all, thats the difference. But none the less, he is professional and one of those who gives absolute 100% in most games.

When the team is fully fit, I don't think bastian starts at bayern anymore.

Good opportunity for both team and player to move forward

of course he starts. Or do u want 35 years old Xabi Alonso to start?

and 1 year ago he kept messi and aguero in his pocket in the World Cup Final

I could see Pep envision something like this

Boateng-martinez-benatia

Lahm-Thiago-Alonso-Alaba

Robben-Lewda-RIbery

if it was me, I would do the 4-2-3-1 with

lahm-boateng-benatia-alaba

Thiago-Javi

Muller-Robben-Ribery

Lewandowski

It would also, allow gotze to play as a n10 rather than on the wings where he is not as effective.

That's a big signing! Congratulations Van Gaal!
He is going to strengthen their squad immensely. Yes, he is injury prone, but he is also the captain of the world cup winning squad, he is the man who almost won every fucking title. Bastian is a great character and leader, he gives them identity. Van Gaal knows what he is doing!
Bastian is not well suited to the tiki taka and the high pressing, but in England he is allowed way more space and without high pressure,
he is able to pick up the ball from their defence and dictate the play.

Depay, Schweinsteiger, Darmian, next a CB and maybe one or two others, great business, good for the competition, no wonder,
why Mourinho is going mental.

Arsenal is getting stronger and stronger, Liverpool too, City is going to spend big money, United has already done great signings,
the competition is heating up.
Especially Liverpool with Firmino....Coutinho...Sterling and Ings upfront is one hell of a strike force.

I say this every year, but the upcoming season has to be one of the best ever.

people said the same about Deco.

I cant see Schweinsteiger handling the pace and physicality of the PL very well.

i agree with you on carrick.

but, united had just one RB - rafael. and he was injured more often than not. plus he is still the immature kid kicking at ribery. he has not learned to pace himself through a game and it shows in his injury, darmian is a decent defender and a massive upgrade on whatever valencia did as RB.

united's midfield options were carrick, herrera, fellaini and blind. bastian is a massive massive massive upgrade. they needed quality and character, bastian provides exactly that.

united will buy a CB - ramos/otamendi. if they do that, they will be right up there along with us and city.

they also said the same about ballack when he moved to chelsea at 30 or makelele.

and i see bastian more as a ballack mode than deco mode.
