His standard is such that he should be man of the match in big champions league games. Now lets examine the games he was nonexistent in... 2012 Shakhtar both legs he was non existent. "found it difficult in the opening half. Beaten for the second goal" "came on for an injured Lampard after 18mins but struggled to create any space and found his passing game was inadequate. Juventus 3-0 - played as striker and had zero impact(perhaps DiMatteo's fault) in 2013-14 we had perhaps the easiest draw of all. The only big games we played were against PSG and Atleti. Against Atleti he was at fault for 2 goals I believe... 2014-15 - again the easiest group one could imagine... Against PSG 1-1 "Drew numerous fouls to ease the pressure on his team but contributed little substance" 2-2 "Was restricted by Marquinhos and lacked his usual creative influence before calmly scoring Chelsea's penalty after Silva’s handball." 2015-16 - easy group made to look hard... 2-1 PSG home "invisible for large spells of the match and was substituted in the 2nd half. 2-1 away "Started the game off well - testing Trapp on a few occasions, but ultimately failed to dominate Chelsea's attacking play. Was booed off by a section of the home fans in the second half."  For me I have yet to see him dominate a big champions league fixture, he is nowhere near lampard let alone Didier in terms of big match influence. The mere suggestion of such a thing is laughable. If he stays past this summer the real test will begin!  Thanks for this in depth summary. Been saying the same for a while now. He has a chance to really show what he's about next season though. Barbara and Chelsea Legend 11

You're arguing for vision, I'm arguing for creativity. You don't have to have Cesc-esque full range vision to be a creative force. Messi trumps Eden in creativity and vision but that doesn't mean Eden isn't amazing at it. Messi just sets a very high level. Styles and Chelsea?
the wes 7,212
Thibaut Courtois has told Chelsea they have to keep Eden Hazard if they are serious about winning the Champions League again. http://m.goal.com/s/en/news/8/main/2017/04/06/34368822/chelsea-need-hazard-to-have-chance-of-winning-champions?utm_referrer=http%3A%2F%2Fc.newsnow.co.uk%2FA%2F880027130%3F-11199%3A832%3A0 I agree with courtios on this one we will. Have a great chance to challenge  the CL next season  with hazard in the team and a couple of big signings in the summer

Hazard has outstriped Messi in the last 5 seasons in key passes and created chances and those stats don't lie. They are more accurate to determine creativity than assists, especially when there's a huge difference in quality between the two teams both players play for. The players that rank at the top of those stats are who you expect to be there. Great playmakers and set-piece takers. You really don't have any metric to argue against that other than a subjective opinion. But let's agree to disagree. He waits for the goalie to move, then picks a corner. He doesn't gamble. Of course it's an easy save if he decides wrong, he almost passes it. I don't necessarily like it, but he's been doing it succesfully for most of his career. What you said is correct, obviously he waits, but what does that to do with my post? You talk about which side he decides to shot, I was talking about his execution in general, his power and direction. Even if he waits for GK, his shot is still low and weak, and I was talking about that only. If GK goes the right way, that is a certain save. If you add alot more power to it like Lamps did, its the kind of penalty that is alot more sure to end up as goal. Yes he did score most of his penalties in past, but now he plays on higher level. Im sure every opposition learns about his shooting technique and they read him better these days, hence he only scored half of last 6 pens. If he did score most of his pens, I would not complain, but thats not the case. Doesnt matter if he was 100% 5 years ago or even 2 years ago, because recently he misses half and that is not good at all. Generaly I realy dislike players who only take step or two in penalties. Its usualy a weak shot and I have seen it countles times being saved.

But it did happen and despite that he still scores on average every 3 games in the league, which I find good enough for a player who doesn't score enough. The Skipper 20,609
He's had like 5 MOTMs in the last 7. Can't say he isn't POTY. I actually think he can make this level of performance more like the norm, because his defensive contribution is a lot more minimal than what Jose had him doing. Can't believe Jose was trying to turn this attacking demon into a LWB. Atrocious.
