manpe 10,861
I didn't notice him making a single forward run yesterday. He got over the half-way line once and was on his way to do his thing, but I could hear a voice shouting "LUIZ!" and immediately he passed the ball away and went back... presumably that was AVB telling him not to go forward. I wonder if he will stay more restricted from now on, or was it just being cautious against a side like Leverkusen away.. no risks.
francozola 2,040
He still made a couple of "defense splitting" passes only problem was Drogba gave it away immediately lol but I very much prefer the role he played yesterday. AVB has obviously told him to cut certain things out
Popular Post! Sheva. 5,373 Posted November 24, 2011 Popular Post! Share Posted November 24, 2011 Giles Smith on the official site:"One thing I'm really struggling to get to grips with, during the current overheated debates, is the casual monstering of David Luiz. Gary Neville is partly responsible, with his smart remark for Sky Sports about Luiz appearing to be a PlayStation player, under the control of a 10-year-old in the stands.Well, nice for a pundit to come out with something memorable for once, even if the price had to be paid in inaccuracy. That said, if Neville means that David Luiz comes steaming forward with the ball in a way that looks almost supernatural, and that he offers entertainment to millions for hours on end, then I might just about agree with him.But the current mantra that David Luiz 'can't defend' - a mantra that is already one of those nuggets of secondhand wisdom that people feel they have to impart - seems almost entirely baffling to me. On Sunday he was given the hardest defensive job on the pitch - marking Luis Suarez. And Suarez didn't get a shot. David Luiz was solid last night, too, despite getting kicked in the stomach. If that's not defending, then long may he fail to defend" termninja, manpe, lecter and 4 others
Tomo 21,751
So yet another convincing defensive display with Luiz playing If he is a liabilty i can't wait until he "learns to defend", no one will score past us.

BlueLion. 21,491
Still doesn't convince me.We could have kept a clean sheet with Kalou and Torres as our centre backs today, Wolves were horribly blunt as an attacking outfit. Nice to see us keep a clean sheet however, but we do need to take today's result with moderation! Bosnian Blue
DYC. 7,542
He was good against Leverkussen and was the same today. He really does make our defence more secure by doing a lot of little things but they go unnoticed by many. He's not been as eager to leave his position, think the coach had a little talk with him and it has been for the better. 5354 204
Hmm honestly I prefer the version of him when he first came... Although risky and reckless, I think he makes strikers fear him! Ollie 4,400
He's still learning but he worries me as someone who's due to make a big fuck up. You can see it coming even if he's playing well and looking solid, expect the unexpected. On his debut, he got MOTM i think against Fulham but still managed to concede a last minute penalty. Sums the guy up. He has the makings tho to be awesome, i still see him as a midfielder tho. The guy scores goals, can pass a ball and dribbles past 4 players on marauding runs. yeah... our CB lol. Just don't know what to make of him.
Kieran. 6,317
I miss his runs. AVB should give him the freedom to do it maybe once or twice a game when we're piling on the pressure.

Besides Mikel is usually as likely to cover Luiz's spot in the defense as he is to score a goal.

Kieran. 6,317
Don't see the harm in letting him go forward once or twice a game when we're dominating and are really pressuring the other teams' defence. His offensive talent should not be ignored. He's awful as a CB at times and seems to be struggling with this constant urge to go forward. IMO the QPR game really showed what he's capable of - the screw ups in the first half ....the brilliance in the second. Its important how AVB shapes him from here on since he's got a lot of talent but needs to get his head sorted out. IMO in the long term he has much more to offer as a midfielder.
