If we are going to get Rijkaard then why the fuck didnt we get him instead of Hiddink. Its 6 months wasted imo.

He could have been in now analysing the squad and be ready to make any improvements come the summer. The decisions made by this club really baffles me at times

Rijkaard didn't want to talk about taking a job until the summer according to his agent. He was determined to take a full year out of football.

Then why did he say this........

Rijkaard's agent Perry Overeem said that if Chelsea did make an approach then the Dutchman would certainly listen.

"(Frank) is obviously a big fan of the game and a big fan of the Premier League so he can be interested in working in the Premier League,'' he told Sky Sports News.

"He would consider every serious job offer from one of the major teams in Europe and obviously Chelsea and the Premier League is one of those.''

Four managers have come and gone since Abramovich bought Chelsea in the summer of 2003, but Overeem insisted that would not put Rijkaard off the challenge at Stamford Bridge.

"Well of course (the reputation of Chelsea) doesn't make it a lot easier and Frank would take some more time to consider the opportunity, but I don't think Frank will be scared off by those statistics.

"He will just think of himself as maybe the one candidate who can stay there longer than those earlier coaches."

I'd prefer him to several others I could mention...

He took over Barca in 2003. Their season before had been a complete disaster, and he turned them into the best team in Europe. He was effectively the Jose Mourinho of La Liga.

Plus it would make meetings with Inter hilarious.

Frank Arnesen is to become the Godfather of Chelsea - making Frank Rijkaard a red-hot tip to be the next boss.

Arnesen will be promoted to director of football by Roman Abramovich and given a major say on appointing the next manager - with Guus Hiddink insisting he WILL go back to managing the Russian national team.

And that makes Dutch legend Rijkaard, out of work since leaving Barcelona a year ago, a big favourite for the Blues hot-seat ahead of AC Milan chief Carlo Ancelotti.

Insiders reveal that Arnesen was pushing for Rijkaard when Avram Grant left last summer, but the Dut chman wanted a year-long break from the game.

Arnesen wanted to team up with Rijkaard a year ago before Luiz Felipe Scolari came in and Hiddink had to rescue their season.

Arnesen went to Chelsea from Tottenham in a controversial move and has progressed behind the scenes from chief scout to the director who looks after their expensive youth programme.

But now Abramovich and his aides have reviewed the set-up and decided to promote Arnesen to an even more senior position that will see him have a large input in signings and finding a new boss.

Abramov i ch has listened to several people after a tough year at Stamford Bridge and he has now opted to back Arnesen - with some other noses likely to be pushed out of joint.

The former Spurs coach is rated highly and will have a new contract out of this shake-up.

Some had tipped him to go during a recent period of cutbacks and checks on the progress of the club's young signings that he had overseen.

ROMAN ABRAMOVICH hopes to complete his new backroom staff by recruiting Ajax chief scout Hans van der Zee.

The Dutchman will work under new Chelsea manager Frank Rijkaard next season.

We exclusively revealed last month that Rijkaard is in line to succeed caretaker manager Guus Hiddink, who will resume his job with Russia in the summer.

Frank Arnesen becomes owner Red Rom’s director of football with Van Der Zee the Dane’s nominated appointment as chief scout.

Rijkaard, who has taken a year out after leaving Barcelona last summer, is on holiday in America but will return to Europe at Easter.

And the Holland legend has told close friends he will be ready to resume work on July 1.

But there will still be a role at Chelsea for Hiddink as he is going to be handed a senior consultancy position.

From BBC gossip do dah:

Chelsea will appoint Frank Rijkaard as their new manager in the summer after the former Barcelona boss was given a glowing endorsement from fellow Dutchman and interim Blues coach Guus Hiddink. (Sunday Express and Daily Star Sunday)

Rijkaard's chances of securing the hot-seat at Stamford Bridge could be enhanced by owner Roman Abramovich's plans to promote Frank Arnesen - who wanted Rijkaard as boss before the Blue's appointed Luis Felipe Scolari - to director of football. (Th

Clubs are queuing up for former Barcelona coach Frank Rijkaard.

Sport says Rijkaard has five offers on the table from Manchester City, AC Milan, Bayern Munich, Chelsea and Real Madrid.

The most lucrative is City's, however, Rijkaard finds Chelsea's project more exciting.
