The fact that Juan Mata doesn't even make the shortlist for POTY renders this award meaningless and little more than farcical.

When you compare Mata's exclusion to those included - Hart, Silva, Rooney, Bale, Parker, Persie, Aguero - everyone else plays in a higher-placed team. League position in itself is irrelevant but the rest of the nominees benefit from having better players around them than Mata does, with the possible exception of Persie. In regards form itself, what have Bale, Silva and Parker done for the last couple of months? Where would Rooney be without all those obligatory penalties Man Utd get awarded?

6 goals, 11 assists for Mata - criminally ignored, just like the contributions of Krul, Vorm, Holt, Ba.

Yep, Ba, Cisse, Cabaye and the entire Newcastle lot were also great shouts for this award. And I imagine 'Scotty' is on the team because he's English/British and epitomises the stereotypical English 'hardman' in midfield, clattering in on dirty Johnny Forriner.

I don't even think van Persie deserved the main award tbh. Yeah he's had a great season - but Aguero has been absolutely outstanding and he'll probably actually win a trophy to go with it.

Manager of the Year is an even worse sham than PFA Footballer of the Year. Invariably it goes to the winner of the PL, if there's any justice it should go to Pardew. What he has done at Newcastle has been nothing short of remarkable, and had we been 3rd or better I would be rooting for them to finish 4th.

Ancelotti did not even win that when in the 'Double' winning season. Think it went to good ol' Harry instead.

The awards tend to be voted at weird times which doesnt help...espically Player of the season is around Feb...

And Hodgson?Last year with Fulham getting them so far and in Europa..they seem to forget that there are other achievements thern winning the league

Kyle Walker getting the PFA Young Player award is just an insult... BlueLion joked about and said he had won it, why?? "because he can run with the ball"

What a joke some of these people are, and what really annoyed me was that Mata wasn't in the team of the year!! Mata has worked the hardest out of all our players this season... he's scored some wonderful goals and has made a shitload of assists too... yet they put in someone like Scott Parker... "yes" he has been good for Sp*rs overall, but lately, his form has dipped... Mata can be completely worn out to death and he STILL has a good game!!

Kostas is right; it's all about popularity and in those stakes someone from the home nations stands a far better chance, e.g. Ryan Giggs in 2009 with the BBC Sport's Personality of the Year.
