AVB - lots of posts and threads devoted to his tenure. RDM's PL record since he's taken over seems to be glossed over because of the feel good factor of everybody pulling together and not bitchin' publicly PLUS the high of the CL championship chase.

RDM pl record is worse because we've had to play Arsenal, City, Tottenham, Newcastle, Liverpool and we haven't fielded a full strength team in the majority of them. I guarentee with a full strength team we'd have beaten Spurs, Arsenal, Newcastle and Liverpool

The players are simply not interested in the PL. They can't motivate themselves for it. We're blaming managers for not motivating them, but a lot of the blame lies with their own inability to perform at 100%.

This good run under RDM is only because initially, the players wanted to prove people wrong about the AVB stories (they got him sacked etc) and then when the Barca draw was made................

So lets not get carried away with all these "RDM has saved our season" stories because yes, he has done a really good job and in terms of man-management it's probably how AVB should have started off, but these results technically have very little to do with him.

Have to say i don't agree with that, the players that RDM have been using in the premiership are mostly the 2nd team players and its not been a fact of them not being motivated, there just not good enough. In the league we've been playing a front line of Ramires Malouda Sturridge and Torres in front and lets be honest there isn't an ounce of creativity in that. The poor PL record has been as a results of tough fixtures where we haven't got to play our strongest teams. If we had been able to play:

Cech

Ivanovic Cahill/Luiz Terry Cole

Lampard Mikel

Ramires Mata Kalou

Drogba/Torres

Week in week out, i can assure you we would have finished in the top 4. To say the results have very little to do with him is harsh

I agree that if RDM had been our manager from the start of the season, we would be in the top 4. I didn't mean that he's a crap manager or anything like that. I just meant that tactically, he hasn't shown anything extraordinary so far. This is not completely his fault of course, as our squad depth is pretty much non-existent. If the first team (by which I mean the few quality players that can still perform) doesn't play, the remaining players are either past it (Malouda, Essien and co) or not good enough to impact games (Kalou, etc)

I should reiterate that I'm not saying that he should definitely not be our manager, or that he's not good enough. For me, the problem is simply that the evidence we have so far is not really meaningful since:

1) Some players know their time is up and sensed that the CL is there to be won as a last hurrah

and

2) Some players wanted to prove the media stories about them getting managers sacked were wrong so initial results (Birmingham, Napoli) were positive and then we just went on a roll

The Barcelona result was good tactics but at the same time when we were drawn together, you could just sense the lift in both the fans and players' attitudes about the competition. If the fans were so excited about it, can you imagine how pumped up the likes of Drogba, Terry, Lampard, Cole and co. must have been?

Anyway, I would like for him to be given a 1 year contract, I think he deserves that. I'm just not getting carried away like some people. Just my opinion!

RDM although great guy and Chelsea legend, is mediocre manager.I mean cmon this is the guy who got sacked by WBA 1 year ago, that has to say something. And his spell at Chelsea is probably the luckiest thing that ever happened to him, getting so much praise for almost doing nothing. The only thing i recall was RDM's invention is Ramires getting played on the wing instead of Mata.

No i see where your coming from, its just that i hate it when people suggest that RDM is only a good man manager, when in fact players have said he's good tactically and that we even have some evidence to prove that he knows what he's doing with tactics such as the switch to 4231, playing Ramires on the wide left position at times etc. A 1 year contract will probably be best for all parties

The west Brom fans were unhappy to see him go though and the main reason why he got sacked was because he wasn't backed by his board. He wanted a striker and defender in January but they didn't get him them. At the start of the season they were getting results while playing attractive football and i remember them beating Arsenal or United. He's young and still learning and the early evidence suggests that he'll be a great manager. Also you say almost doing nothing, so was it the players that organised the tactics for our games against Napoli, Benfica, Barcelona, Tottenham etc?

Kalou :fainthv9:

Realistically,I don't see Chelsea keeping RDM on a permanent basis. As much as I want him to stay,I just don't see it happening. The board want a high profile manager, who can attract top players and can control players effectively. They want a manager who won't have any problem of getting rid of players and more importantly want an experienced manager.I can't see RDM playing the Bad Cop routine, especially with the experienced players.

Now if Chelsea do keep RDM,what will happen to him when the results don't go our way. Will he get sacked immediately and will we appoint another interim manger?I think the Board knows that poor results will be inevitable and it will be better to part ways with RDM now then later.

The board appointed RDM as an interim manager because they were looking for suitable candidates.Benitez was available but the fans rightly disapproval made it clear that they had to look for other candidates but then they realized that the performances have improved significantly under RDM and maybe perhaps they should recruit later.Overcoming the Napoli deficit delayed the decision but now with many top managers available, the board will look to resume what they had planned.

Despite the stats showing that we are better under AVB than RDM, the former is just to be blamed as much as RDM, IF we are going down that route. The failure to beat the likes of Fulham, Wigan, Norwich, Swansea, West Brom and Aston Villa is one of the major reasons why we are not in the Top 4. Adding to that, consistency in the league has also been a big problem under AVB, not just RDM. Our best winning run of the season is just 3 games. 3 GAMES!! And our longest unbeaten run? 6 games with 3 wins and 3 draws in it. We couldn't even manage to string anything more than that.

Villas Boas vs Di Matteo PL Record

RDMAVB100512.jpg

http://www.talksport...eo-proof-171748

Yes Villas Boas has 17 more games than Di Matteo but the average points/goals/goals against stats are interesting.

Can't compare the two, RDM has managed a side that played a game every three days. He gambled with the team selection a lot (for obvious reasons) and sometimes it worked out, sometimes it didn't.

I don't think we can accurately use this season's league record for anything.
