The way Webb was waiting for the Man Utd players reactions before giving fouls sometimes yesterday was quite shocking. He could not wait to blow for a pen, the first one was as soft as you like and the second was just plain ridiculous.

I rewatched the match, and was rather shocked at the lengthy delays making calls by him. He allowed himself to be bullied and coerced into decisions.

Most PL refs are ok. They are average and make mistakes but most of them do not seem to have any obvious bias and can at least get the majority of "simple" fouls right.

I like Clattenburg and Marriner the most. Atkinson is alright too.

The few that are really dreadful: Chris Foy, Howard Webb and Lee Mason. They are absolutely pathetic and tend to get everything wrong.

Webb didn't have a bad game in all honesty, but he made two mistakes - the first not to give a penalty for the Bosingwa shirt-pull, and the second to make up for that mistake when Welbeck fell over inside the box.

• Incident 1 - Bosingwa shirt-pull on Young - definite penalty, NOT GIVEN - wrong decision - you can see why Webb doesn't give it, as Young falls forward when Bosingwa is pulling him backwards, but this is a definite spot-kick, no doubt about it.
  
• Incident 2 - Cahill on Welbeck - never a penalty, NOT GIVEN - correct decision - never, ever, ever a penalty. Mainly because Cahill got the ball. Also because both the initial contact with the player and the follow-through contact came after the ball was won, and both moments of contact came outside the box. Not even a free-kick.
  
• Incident 3 - Sturridge on Evra - definite penalty, GIVEN - correct decision- obvious trip, blatant peno.
  
• Incident 4 - Ivanovic on Welbeck - never a penalty, GIVEN - wrong decision - never a penalty in a million years. Ivan withdraws his foot because he knows he is on a yellow card, so Welbeck drags his foot out and falls over Bran's leg, which is moving away from the player. Given because of a wrong decision earlier, but two wrongs don't make a right.

Isn't Webb considered to be the best ref in England? Or at least I think he was. I think he refd the final in the WC or Euros... and wasn't he the one to give a player 3 yellow cards in a game?

I was laughing about the look on Platter's face for about 2 weeks!

Let's not forget that the EPL is not the easiest place to ref. The refs in the Italian and Spanish league seem much better than here simply because they have an easier job. Not that there aren't EPL referees that are just not good enough=Foy.

Fair enough they are human and make mistakes but it doesnt make sense when they make a major mistake...and then get handed a massive game which they cant handle!

And worse is Managers cant say what they mean or how they feel because they get punished for it.End of the day mistakes from refs can be costly postion wise and when its the same ones maing mistakes...
