I hope they are strict with it. It's incentive to make those players continue to play and train at their very best. yes, the drawback is other clubs offer longer contracts but that's a risk worth taking imo.

Strict with it is one thing but what I meant was the manager/club will judge on player to player basis. If they think he can still contribute to the team, then they'll get the contract extension. It's like how Terry, Lampard and Cole got theirs in the past 2 years or so.

I don't think he'll be Chelsea's next captain, I mean he's turning 29 at the end of this year and he'll probably retire just a couple of seasons after JT. It's a discussion for the future, but surely it'll be Courtois.

I find it ludicrous how Gerrard managed to escape criticism for his terrible World Cup performances, like no blame was attached to him at all, whereas Rooney who was okayish got so much flack. Will never understand the love the media have for this guy.

Jamie Redknapp (Liverpool bias I know but still) for example said he's 100% the best English midfielder of his generation, better than Scholes, Lampard etc... It's ridiculous.

Kinda. We can't deny that his work rate, mentality and performances haven't deserved him that though. I feel he deserves a pay rise and he'll be very happy to know his work is appreciated.

His last ditch tackling and blocking are probably the best in the world. He has made so many last second tackles, blocks and clearances that I get lost in memories just by getting to remember it. Even yesterday with his hand (on his chest). He never complained when being on the bench but instead worked harder and pushed Luiz away from starting 11. That's something I really like and respect.
