I was a bit happier when I see Cahill this pre season. Hes looked so thin with a pale gaunt face looking like Schurrle on crack this last couple of years. But hes as bad as ever.

The fact that 3 of our back line are starting for us is really the issue, And it should have been looked at the back end of 2012. The problem is that it takes a manager a year or so to get a proper feel how players work/gel and ours dont last much longer than that. And as they are  supposedly the strength on the pitch and dressing room and Bane gives Roman BJs it keeps getting put off. And now we are paying for it.

There shouldn't be room for sentiment in team selection.

I'd love Happy to come back against Mounure afyer they did him in the 1st place. Be great for him to get some payback.

At the time you couldn't really fault that logic. If we could have secured an establish one then it would've been wonderful for the development of this team.

That's not logical at all. We desperately needed to sign at least one CB in his prime regardless of whether or not JT stayed.

Surely we should have signed a top CB in the previous 3 windows; surely we should have replaced Ivanovic 3 years ago; surely we wouldn't go into the third straight season with just 6 senior defenders available.

But all those did happen and they have nothing to do with JT, just the miserable failure of the club and its board.

Let's assume that this is true, even though you're clearly trolling. How does that change in any way the point I was making?

JT was our best available CB when he got the extension and we're still clearly struggling when he's unavailable. 

So yes, it is quite laughable that some of our fans wanted us to let go for free of a player who was clearly going to be and currently is a key player for the team.

We haven't invested in another quality defender- probably because Zouma is still on the books. Think Cahill is becoming a bit of a scapegoat in all honesty, and even with JT next to him, JTs leadership, which can compensate for lack of pace, doesn't seem so prevalent now.

I think most people would have wished JT a fond farewell had we had the required characters and quality coming in to take his place. Sadly, I don't think Luiz or Cahill aren't really on the same planet as a player like Terry, and Zouma has an awful long way to go to get anywhere near that, and the injury won't have helped. Makes you realise how rare the diamond defenders we had are ...JT, Carvalho, Ashley
