Jaimin - usually when I'm managing a decent team I leave after I've won every trophy available because it's no fun when there are no new challenges available. But I often start off with managing a Championship team or a relegation contender in the Prem and stay for 4-5 seasons and then move on to a slightly bigger club.

I just finished my first season with Newcastle. The season didn't start off too well. Had my best players injured (Ben Arfa, Demba Ba, Coloccini etc) so I really struggled especially up front because nobody was scoring any goals at all. I think I drew like 8 out of my first 10 games, all either 0-0 or 1-1 because I simply couldn't get any one to score. Defense was doing fantastic though. I bought Jonas Olsson who was superb all season and a steal at only 6m. Also managed to get Wayne Bridge for 1.8m and he was great as well. Tim Krul was magnificent

Bought John Fleck in January for about 5m who did okay

Things picked up after January and I managed to get a great run going and ended up in 7th place. The league was extremely competitive right til the end. Utd, Spurs, Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal were challenging for the title and the leader would change every week. In the end Utd won the league by a point. City finished 6th and I was just a couple of points behind them in 7th. Lost a bit of momentum towards the end of we could have finished 6th or even 5th because Arsenal were struggling in the last couple of months.

In the summer I brought in Christian Eriksen for 10m, Scott Sinclair for 2m and this French 16 y/o called Yahsien (sp) for 4m that has amazing stats. Negotiating a deal to get this winger called Tadic I believe for 10m. It's currently preseason and things are looking good.

^^ I'm tempted to continue as it's Chelsea :D , want to make it three-in-a-row in the CL.

I think I'll give it two more seasons and try to win the league with more than half the team comprised of HG players from the academy. Build a new side and make a transition. Letting Terry, Cole, Lampard go now. They've been fringe players anyway for more than a year and I've been using Ryan, Josh, Kane, Fleck and other young regens I've signed a lot.

P.S - The facepack works perfect for me, extract all files to a "graphics" folder in my docs/sports interactive/fm2012. Create a graphics folder there if it isn't there already. In FM, go to preferences and untick "use skin cache" and tick "always reload skin on confirm" in the display and sounds tab. Hit confirm and voila.

Cheers, I'll give that a go.

BTW this game has really come on leaps and bounds since 08 which was the last version I played before starting this one. Biggest improvement imo is in transfers and gameplay. Transfers were so god damn ridiculous back then. You'd have to pay 3 times the value of most players to get the club to accept an offer. Loans for the better players were practically impossible if you were a 'lesser' club as the players would reject the offer every time.

Gameplay is also much better. I'm not using the 3D gameplay though because my video card is shite and can't handle it so I'm just using the normal 2D version which suits me just fine. There were too many bugs in the older versions of the game which now seem horrendous after playing this one. Like, players would contest for an offside decision in like 50% of the goals. And there would always be that "Player X has to take the blame for the goal" or something similar also in most goals even though it wasn't that players fault at all. etc etc

Told ya you'd be blown away :D

You should upgrade your card, the 3D match engine isn't to be missed. Some of the detailing is so true to life, for example if you play against Portuguese teams, often the home crowd will light flares right behind the goal!

I just signed Jovetic for 42M € when his value was 12,5M €, but my scouts say he has 4-star potential so I gave it a go.. and believe me, I tried to sign him for less... I also managed to get to contract negos with Cavani for 32,5M €, but he accepted Liverpool's offer instead :@ I also signed Di Maria for 12,8M €. He was transfer listed by Real so I could get him for cheap (ManU wanted him, so I had to get him out of spite :P)

I usually lose my interest after 2 seasons once I have won everything with Chelsea.. I am unable to play with other teams, it doesn't feel true to me. I've tried, but I've quickly quit after starting... Maybe I should try, it would be a new challenge and I have no idea how I would manage with not-so-good teams.

Can anyone recommend me a right back? I just released a whole bunch of players and of course Bosingwa and Ferreira were among them. So I tried to sign Kyle Walker, Mauricio Isla, Azpilicueta and van der Wiel and failed. I currently have a little over 14m euros, but I think I could get about 4m more if I adjusted my budget. Suggestions?

Sime Vrsaljko

i'm in my 3rd season now, 11 games in, sold ivanovic for 18 million to City, he was coming up 30 and i can't refuse that money, so i bought Sime Vrsaljko for 20 million off Wolfsburg, you play him wingback support, he's amazing, he's got 7.55 average rating for me so far, with 5 assists, which is pretty good for a wing back who's played 9 games into the season, his stats don't look too impresive, especially his technical stats, but his physical and mental stats are what makes him the player he is, i thought i'd have trouble with him in defending situations, but i havent had one, he plays well, even against good wingers like Di Maria and such.

Thanks for the answer. Vrsaljko's actually one of those players I've been looking at, but I wasn't so sure I should get him because I thought he'd be like Ivanovic, who's a pretty bad right back in FM imo. Anyway, I'll try and see if I can get him.

Funny thing you mentioned Di Maria, though. I just signed him. :P

He's a pretty poor player in my opinion. In my FM 2011 save he went to City and I used to overload his flank and gain three easy points every time despite City having a monstrous team.

I'd defo try to re-negotiate with Azpiculeta again, pure class. Quick shout for Serge Aurier from Lens too.

Players are different in each FM, look at Daniel Agyei now for example, on the last one he had potential to be better than Essien, on this FM he's very poor and doesn't look like improving at all. Babakar isn't that good either. Markus Henrique wasn't good on FM 11, but on FM 12 he's boss and a very good player to buy. I signed him for 3.5 million, absolute bargin, brilliant player. And Serge Aurier is terrible on FM 12, he was brillaint on FM 11 however.
