Liverpool have yet to buy a player that would make ours, City's, or Arsenal's first XI.

If they would've made all these signings whilst keeping Suarez I'd say they'd be title contenders. Now he's gone and it just looks like they're doing a Spuds and buying a shed load of dross.

well, I do think that Lovren could compete with Cahill, Koscielny/Mertesacker and also Demichelis/Nastasic. So he probably could make it in any top team...was one of the best CBs last season, and 20m pounds is a decent price tbh. And with 25 he is still very young and has good resell value if he fails.

Liverpool have yet to sign a player of a similar quality to our signings of Cesc and Costa, Arsenal's of Sanchez and United's of Herrera. Sure Markovic and Can will be great in a few years and Lambert and Lallana are good players but Liverpool have gone from title contenders down to top 4 contenders again in my eyes, losing Suarez is massive.

I'd say he's worth around £15m but obviously sometimes you have to overpay, especially when it comes to Southampton anyway, so understandably the fee has risen to £20m. It won't make them instant title contenders, as you said Suarez is a huge loss, but they've bought one of the best CBs in the PL IMO.

Lovren is a decent CB, but you would expect more knowing Liverpool's defence was utter shite last season. And Champions League is coming.

I would have expected them to aim for defenders like Benatia, Garay or Mangala, guys who would have an instant impact on a already horror defence.

But for all the "biggest club in the world" bollocks and the other things they are bragging about, I think those guys (and others too) would have rejected them, so in the end you can't blame them for signing Lovren.

Enrique - Lovren - Skrtel - Johnson. All this after having all the money in the world to improve your defence.

Lovren for £20 million is decent, i don't know why people mock the price... When the likes of Chambers, Debuchy and Borini are going for £14+ than he's easily worth £20 million. There's a reason why many Southampton fans were more worried about losing Lovren and Schneiderlin than the likes of Lambert, Lallana and even Shaw. He's quality and only 24, great signing IMO.

One good midfielder next to Gabi, a proper back up for Mandzukic and some other two or three decent players next to Thiago, Mario Suarez and Alderweireld on the bench and they're good to go.

With Andreas and Ake confirmed on the first team, and Solanke, Boga, Brown training with the squad. We have got proper player in every single position now with quite decent backup. No need to buy anymore, only need to sell some surplus players. 2014-15 season, here we go.
