steve5221 91
The thing that is starting to bug me about AVB is that the "Old Guard", seem to be cemented back in the team. Terry-Lampard and Drogba have played the last few games.Where has this refereshing of the team gone we where promised??The fact is the only young player he has implemented in the side is Sturridge....glimpses of Romeu - who has done very well but then cast back to the background - Mcearchan and bertrand have done well in CC cup but have been given no opportunties in the league. If it continues to go pearshaped and they do sack him - I feel we have a ready made replacement already. Roberto Di matteo - got West Brom promoted and played good football. Was very harshly sacked also. Chelsea Legend who would command respect of the players. Could guide us till the end of the season and then make a judgement. Anyone else think RDM could step up and do the job??
LDN Blue 7,903
Yes, he must be sacked. He will and can not change his way of thinking football, but Chelsea will never adabt toplay "Barcelona" football, it aint gonna work with high line defence, never!. He will be sacked just a matter of time.Weren't you the one arguing about longevity when the Ancelotti-firing issue came about?
Madmax 9,219
I don't think I'll be able to support Chelsea under Roman if AvB gets sacked anytime soon. We're turning into a joke with the way things have been handled in the managerial sense, sacking AvB would just about do it for me. I do remain hopeful that all the "pressure on AvB" theories in the media are nothing more than their usual club-in-crisis headlines

Even if no-such pressure exists, they'll always try to write it. AVB could be as safe as Ferguson is, but it wouldn't stop them 'predicting' and using made up 'sources' to suggest he is.Like Daily Mail's £20m release clause/compensation feature. What they then write in thier "papers" is material to get the average Joe bloggs to buy it and discuss down the local pub.

We had the ball in the middle of the park when the clock hit 90, instead of keeping possesion and seeing the game out, Sturridge tried something stupid on the half way line lost the ball, that led to the corner, that led to the goal........gutted.. Chelsea Legend who would command respect of the players. Could guide us till the end of the season and then make a judgement. Anyone else think RDM could step up and do the job??If they didn't respond to Ancelotti, aren't responding to AVB, what makes you think they're going to respond to RDM? Ancelotti has one of the best CVs of managers in the last 15 years and won the Double. AVB was the boy genius with the 13M pound backing of the owner. You think RDM as a former player with a brief stint at WBA is going to get through some of the skulls in Cobham? The managers change, the spine of the team hasn't and the same issues pop up each season. So who's the problem?Trust me, I'm not absolving AVB. I think he's not helped himself at all with some of decisions, behavior and press handlings. Absolutely disappointing for someone we all thought as very bright and articulate. But ultimately his hands are tied by an aging but still politically powerful core of players.Roy Keane, Tim Howard, RVN and Rio Ferninand made up United's spine in 2004-05. Where are they now? Rio's barely getting a game nowadays. Yet Chelsea's spine from that season just started 2 must win games in 4 days!I agree with Henrique that AVB backed away from the window ledge and reverted to the old spine in order to scrape out a couple of wins. The sad irony is that he compromised his much talked about footballing principles and got zero points for it. If Chelsea are going to get zero points, I would rather see a team made up of the younger veterans mixed in with some youngsters and because of squad limitations, sprinkling in an oldie here and there. At least while losing, AVB would be making an investment in a team that can challenge in 2012-13.
Laylabelle 9,539
From BBC:Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech has delivered a damning assessment of Chelsea's current failings, pinning the blame firmly on the players and absolving manager Andre Villas-Boas of responsibility. "The manager is not on the pitch, we are on the pitch and we are making mistakes," Cech said. "He cannot do anything about individual mistakes while he is standing by the bench."
