I think you're in for a masisve let down because Mata is nothing like Robben. In fact he's a lot closer to a Malouda than he is to a Robben in terms of style.

He is a number 10 that can operate out on the left. He's smart, technical and has good passing ability. What he doesn't have is the sheer pace of Robben that takes him past players.

Mata will be excellent at finding space in tight areas, recieving the ball and moving it forward. That's exactly what we need so I'm all for this transfer.

Mata has been playing on the sides since Real Madrid Castilla I think yet he's number 10 according to you, a role he didn't (really) play since last season? Even when he had to play as a attacking midfielder, he keeps drifting to the side.

Fair enough, guess I got a bit confused. I find his passing too raw to be a 10 though. He can spot the pass but his passing isn't all that accurate and inconsistent. But he's young so he can improve if he works hard.

That's already an improvement! We'll forgive him for being a bit hit and miss with his passing. I'd rather a player who sees the pass and can sometimes make it as opposed to a Kalou who can barely control the ball let alone see a pass.

He might not be the winger we all want but he's a very good young player. He is the best player from the 3rd best team in Spain. That tells you he is a very good and at only 23 he will get even better.
