🇪🇸 Juan Mata

It's never that simple, but ideally the club really should have just sold him if he wasn't going to be in the manager's plans. Why let a player that can bring in an excess of 30-40 mill in today's market waste away on the bench when you can use those funds and reinvest in other areas? That money could have gone towards signing a top class striker or central midfielder. Juan Mata sitting on the bench serves absolutely no purpose - to him or to us. This isn't some young talent, this is a player at his peak coming off of an excellent season and is valued at around 30 mil. To have him rot away on the bench when there are at least two key areas that needs strengthening is just such a waste. Just don't get this club sometimes.

Because Jose wanted them to gradually be replaced.....

So, the media +fans would go less beserk over the transfers...

Mang, wtf is PSG doing with their transfer policy. They should focus on getting a WC manager.....

I love the little Spaniard but this supposed €48m offer from PSG sounds very tempting and I would probably accept it if such an offer was made in January. Our team is stacked in the attacking midfielder department at the moment and so far this season Mata has been perhaps the least influential of the five that have played regularly so if he went now I can't see much changing as far as the AMs are concerned but that money could be spent on improving our weaknesses.

However, we can't afford to lose both Mata and KdB so if one of them leaves, the other has to stay. Financially it would make most sense to sell Mata because judging by all the rumours we could be getting a very good price for him whereas De Bruyne would probably be shipped out for way below his market value because he hasn't played much for the last six months.

I'm not a fan of Luiz, however with the way He and Mata have been used sparingly this season gives the rumor/leak about the Rooney swap in the summer more credence. if people want to use the form argument then Lampard, hazard and Oscar (recently) have been untouchable despite poor form which indicates favouritism and contradicts jose's fairness and equality policy .

Bottomline is that he doesn't rate mata and before anyone reference his quote praising him, I will just say that i'm a firm believer of action over words.

Even the tactical argument he's been using to justify his treatment of mata doesn't make sense as Ozil who is very similar to mata in terms of work rate and defensive capabilities, was one of his "untouchables" at madrid.

Sneijder was in a similar mould as well...though that might have something to do with the strong and solid duo behind them.

When all said and done, Jose wants a high pressing game, as great a player as Mata unquestionably is, he isn't going to scrap his plan to accommodate one player just because he was our best player when we finished 6th and scrapped 3rd.

Jose decided he doesn't like Mata's style of game and since then Mata has worked hard and started pressing just like Hazard, Schurrle, Oscar and Willian do. Mata is getting minutes but Mourinho needs to understand he was wrong to pick Oscar over him. Deep inside he knows Mata should start.

Mata is slowly getting phased out from the squad. He was never wrong to pick Oscar over Mata, because that is what RDM is essentially did as well in the Champs League.

Deep down inside, Jose knows that he should of sold Mata and reinvest the funds towards a stud CM. However, with the amount of potential backlash he would receive, he is slowly phasing him out, so the dropping of Mata becomes less and less severe...

I find it very strange when people use our league position in the past two years as some sort of basis to undermine the contribution Mata made in those years. I don't think people realize just how much more it takes and how much more effort it requires to be the best player in an under performing team. If Mata can perform as he did when the rest of the team was subpar at times then what makes folks think that he's not capable of raising his game to an even higher standard?

I think the point is whether or not Mata's inclusion in the team makes us a better or worse team.

What I personally like about Oscar is that he knits the team together well, linking defence and attack and also contributing at both ends too. When Mata was in the team at points last season, the gap between the midfield and the attack seemed massive at times and it also seemed to grow when we played Newcastle this season.

Yes he was fantastic over the past couple of years and had great stats, but did the freedom afforded him to amass those goals and assists actually make us weaker as a team?

 im not undermining him and especially not his contributions in the last two years. But that alone shouldn't get him a free pass into the team regardless. It seems supporters never know what they want, a CFC supporting mate i have has spent the half a decade moaning about the player power at the club and now wants Mata to be played out of respect, you can't make it up.
