If we are even considering paying £65 million for Lukaku i have officially lost all confidence in the board.. absolute shambles.

Imagine some of the players we could get with that money...

Could surely sign anyone outside of a handful of players in world football with that much money. Even our board aren't this mad.

Chelsea confident of signing £65m striker Romelu Lukaku as he favours Stamford Bridge return. #CFC #EFC (Standard)

Surely to goodness this tells us all we need to know. Where are Barca or Real or Bayern or Paris or Juve or Atletico or the Manchester clubs or Arsenal even, in the chase for this wonderful striker? Nowhere to be seen it seems. I'm inferring that on the assumption that this story is true, because, if it is, that's the only explanation for Rom preferring Chelsea. If any of those clubs put their hat in the ring Rom would undoubtedly be at least considering them. Trouble is for Rom that those clubs have seen him play and that fact is, I'm affraid, always going to put a ceiling on his ambition.

Rom has some highly desirable attributes but he lacks the one quality which, ultimately, all of the great strikers possess, high level technical skills. That shortcoming dooms him to being ranked among the good, not the great and the good is not what I want Chelsea to be chasing in the transfer market. Not at £65m, not even at £28m. Buy good players, keep buying good players then buy enough good players and you end up 10th. Unless of course you end up 11th. Like Everton.

If we really are contemplating this stupid move there can be only one of two explanations to my mind. Either it suggests a dangerous nativity on Conte's part; it's England so let's get a big lump up top, or it is someone in the decision making group wanting to prove that they were right all along. Bringing Rom back would be a very expensive way to prove that they were not.

Oh my fucking god, can he and his dad just shut the fuck up for once?!

To be fair to Rom he has made some good judgements in his career so far. Joining Chelsea was the right choice, as was the decision to leave again. Now, wanting to move on from Everton is once more the right plan. Just so long as he doesn't end up here that is. :)

With that money we could get Morata and Nainggolan. Add a bit of cash and we've got ourselves a centre-back too.

No need to waste money on a player who will never successfully pair up with Diego or even clean his boots if it comes to the two fighting for one spot in the team.

Certainly seems to be heating up.

It just makes no sense at all unless the club have decided to sell Diego Costa. Don't see how their styles and qualities mesh together and neither would be happy or willing to not start every week. They'd both benefit from having a technically gifted "second striker" style player partnering them. They're too similar to one another to play together.

There seems too much media speculation. It looks like if we can get a new first choice striker through the door then we'll let Costa move on. There has been a lot of talk since last summer that he is unsettled and wants to go back to Spain.

Still not sure on Lukaku. On his day he's a world beater and will obviously get better. But he still isn't anywhere near the finished article which is a risk and I begrudge paying that much money for him a couple of years after selling him. Makes us look such big idiots.

Amazing how the nonsensical tranfers have so much credibility (as regards to the news) and are easiest to get done, but the deals for Radja Nainggolan or any other Defender (which we haven't been linked with at all) drag on and on.

Had that feeling the first moment I read that transfer rumour that this would actually get done. SMH.

Agreed. On his day he's unplayable and bullies teams like Drogba. Other days Everton looked like they were playing with 10 men.

I'm so conflicted on this. If he wants so badly to return to a club that got rid of him then I suppose it shows he truly loves Chelsea like he said he did. Him returning and fulfilling his potential under Conte sounds romantic. That would be cool to see.

On the other hand, £65m is a mental amount to pay for him.

Yes, I can't wait for him to join, so he can start meowing desperately like a she-cat in the midst of love season for Bayern or such to come get him.
If Diego leaves for him I'll be absolutely furious. Why would anyone want him for 65m? This is quickly turning into comedy.

I really, really, really find it absurd to believe that there is somebody on that Chelsea board right now nodding his/her head thinking '65 million quid for Lukaku? Mhm, let's do this.'

Seriously hope this is BS.

Emenalo probably jerks himself to sleep thinking of masterminding Lukaku's return. :D

As long as we address all of our other needs in addition to signing Lukaku I won't care. If we go and spend a ridiculous amount on him and it means we can't sign midfielders and defenders of a certain level and instead have to settle for average ones I'll be livid.
