This story has all the ingredients for a Hollywood movie. in 2001 He fled war-torn Somalia with his parents when he was just six, was later spotted by one of the biggest clubs in Britian and became one of the most promising players in Scotland, even labeled by many 'the Scottish Wayne Rooney'. 10 years after, aged 16, Islam Feruz signed for one of the the richest clubs in the world, Premier-League club Chelsea leaving his former club furious.

When the Feruz family arrived to Scotland illegally they were set for deportation, but the late Tommy Burns, then in charge of Celtic 's youth development, spotted Islam`s talent and managed to convince the Foreign Office to let his family stay. During the years Islam proved that Burns knew what he was fighting for. The young African had developed into a lightning striker, earning a call-up the the Scottish u-17 team when only 14 and scoring 6 goals in his first 7 matches. Last year he starred for Celtic `s u-19 team and began training with the senior squad.

Celtic were hoping to sign Feruz on a professional contract, but they had very stiff competition. Some of the biggest and richest European clubs – Manchester United, Manchester City and Real Madrid to name but a few - began to show interest in the young talent, and finally Chelsea won the race in September after offering the youngster £2,500-a-week salary. The Celtic staff have found little comfort in the £250,000 compensation fee they would receive from Stamford Bridge.

Team manager, Neil Lennon, was left furious: “We've done all we can to keep him here. We took him out of what you might describe as a rough estate and put his family in a nice flat. The club has been so good to him. We've looked after him and his family very well but his head's been turned, obviously. I think he's been badly advised. I don't think the football is the main issue here.”

Feruz's agent, Rui Alves, rejected the claims: "It was in Islam's heart to move to Chelsea. The structure at youth level at Chelsea is great. It will be a gift from god to see him playing in the Premier-League. He would love to thank Celtic for all they did for him and his parents.”

Well, in order to create such drama and controversy you must be something special, don`t you?

Strengths

Though only 1.63 meter tall, Feruz owns amazing strength which makes him a very hard player to handle, even for tough defenders. He is very fast and got explosive pace combined with great technique, dribbling skills and close ball control, elements that make him also very useful playing on the flanks. Mainly right footed, he can shoot the ball well with both feet from any distance. Just like the Manchester United striker he is compared to, Feruz also loves to come deep to collect the ball and then burst at the defense.

Weaknesses

Feruz is still raw material, his only senior-team experience was in the 2009 testimonial to Tommy Burns. “The next two or three years are very important in terms of his development through full-time football”, said Neil Lennon - and it`s true. His passing game and tactical and defending abilities are just some of the aspects he needs to develop in order to live up to his potential. Though very strong and athletic, his height will give him hard times in aerial battles.

Mentality

In just 16 years, Islam Furez had more drama than some people have in a lifetime. One can argue with his decision to leave the club who has treated him so well, but it seems like this kid, who is described as a lively character, is made of the right material. Some Celtic fans were far from happy with his departure and even made some racist remarks against him on his Facebook page, but it didn`t stop from Feruz scoring on his official debut for Chelse`s u-18 team.

Current Situation

Few years back Slobodan Rajkovic and Scott Sinclair signed with Chelsea around Feruz`s age and were singled out as future stars at Stamford Bridge, but failed to make a breakthrough and are no longer part of the Blues. With a star-studded team, blessed by talented young strikers such as Romelu Lukaku and Daniel Sturridge, it will nothing but easy for the Scottish talent to get first team football in the near future.

For now, Feruz needs to focus on his development in Chelsea`s youth academy and in couple of years maybe go on a loan and return to Stamford Bridge as more experienced and complete player that will be able to compete for a place in one of the world`s top clubs. Manchester United`s Danny Welbeck and Tom Cleverley are good examples.

Whatever will be, thinking how life could have been for Islam and his family had the 16 year-old was not blessed with great footballing skills, it is gonna be a hell of a story.

Lmao. Like if they saved him out of charity. If they saved him and his family, that's only because he had some special skills, skills that they would use later. Basically, they only have seen him as a tool and saved him because he would have been of some utility for them. Hypocrites.

My Dad is a Celtic fan and has been to many reserve games and has seen Feruz play. He said he stood out from the rest of the reserves with his frightening pace and skill. On top of that, he's a great finisher. My Dad is not a Chelsea fan though and was gutted when he left for us. LOL wooo, fuck you old man! Haha

I don't know if @feruz10 is his official twitter (probably is because there are quite a few pics of him) but he seems to be quite arrogant??? He just tweeted that he won't play for the Scotland u17s because he passed that stage a couple of years ago and refuses to step down a few levels. That's a pretty crappy attitude lol
