Thibaut Courtois

This is honestly one of the best bits of transfer news for us this summer.

Don't get me wrong, I love Cech and everything he's done but at times last season he was sloppy and inconsistent something I'm not used to seeing, a few goals conceded were his fault.

With Courtois we get what we had when Cech first signed, a young goalkeeper playing to his peak each game.

Very happy and excited to hear the news. Looking forward to see him wearing Chelsea shirt. Hopefully Cech will stay and compete with him. Also expecting Courtois to sign new contract, but cannot seeing that at the moment, maybe next season.

No chance of the club letting him enter the last year of his contract. Either he will sign a new contract this year or he’ll get sold and by the looks of things he will be staying so he'll most likely be signing the extension soon too.

Considering he still have 2 years left in his contract, its okay to pending it until next year. Next year is a must to offer him though. If he don't want to sign it, then sold him next year. But yes it is better if we could offer him now, but I thought it is just not an ideal situation and condition now with WC, Cech still around, and in love with Atletico still there. Next year hopefully after he lifted some trophies and almost play in every match, it will be a better situation and condition to offer him a new contract.

Get it signed sooner rather than later. Make him number one, make him feel like the best goalkeeper in the world (which he must feel at the moment anyway) and then slap a 6 year contract on his lap.

Thing is, if he won't sign a new contract before next summer he will only have a year left and everyone knows that's a situation where the player has all the power. All the top clubs will begin contacting his agent and start whispering to him how much money Thibaut would be earning if he moved there after running down his contract so that's a situation we can't afford to have. If the plan is for Mourinho to make him the club's number one keeper now for the unforeseeable future I really don't see why he wouldn't sign an extension right away this summer. Makes sense for all parties: we get to tie up arguably the best GK in the world and he will get a massive wage rise on his current contract, which I would assume is not all that high given it was signed when he had only played one season in the Belgian league.

It's De Visser we have to thank for this 'nice' problem, keep seeing people mistakenly giving Emenalo credit.

Wouldn't imagine so. Courtois was a Championship winning goalkeeping in Belgium when we signed him, despite his young age he wasn't an unknown kid.

Tbf nobody we sign or have signed (outside youth level) have been total unknowns, that's rarely the case for top clubs. De Visser was following him before that, this is the guy who predicted the Belgium surplus and was scouting Oscar at age 15, let's give him a little credit.

Everyone who is a Chelsea fan will know that Cech is a club legend. We all love Cech and understand the significance of his contribution. At the same time though, we all know that age catches up to everybody. At this moment, there is little doubt that Courtois is better. I think Courtois should start, and if Cech desires to compete with him he should be welcome to stay. I think however he will be sold to PSG for a hefty sum.

Yep, thats true for sure. I think to be fair, we should be proud of the team that we've assembled over the last few years in terms of recruiting of all ages. Youth team have come on bundles, as have transfer negotiations. Not something thats really been acknowledged by the media, but I think its fair to say the majority of us lot appreciate and respect the change.

Still just don't understand how this situation is going to work. Just judging by how Petr tweets it certainly seems like he'll remain with us. It looks like we really will have both he and Courtois in our side next season which I just don't think makes sense unless Cech is fine with being the backup.
