I'm really excited about the prospect of having Maicon. Everything you said was spot on. People who are concerned about Maicon being 'ripped apart' by quick wingers, fear not as that rarely happens to someone as good and experienced as Maicon.

He's soon to be 31... Your underestimating him. There are not many players quicker than Bale so I don't think it'll be too much of a problem. Maicon is still quality.

It happens as you age. Can't help that. He is still good and has alot of experience at the top level. He may rediscover his old self with better players around him.

Yep, just a few years ago he was considered one of, if not the best RB in the world. That should tell you something.

He is a big upgrade to Bosingwa. Good going forward, pretty good defensively. He's lost some pace so against quicker opponents like Bale he'll need help.

Not possible. No young player will move to Chelsea to become 2nd choice and hinder their growth. Maicon is the absolutely PERFECT player considering his circumstances. He is exactly what we need for RB.

Stop mentioning his age. There's no problem with it. It's probably the only way we can get a good RB who is content with being 2nd choice. No younger player will settle for that. Unfortunately I suspect he'll be on a pretty hefty wage packet to compensate for the fact he will be 2nd choice.

I would be very happy with this signing. He is getting on in age, so he can expect less playing time, however he is still young enough to give us some quality years of service. So he is the perfect age. He is still a classy defender and has great experience and a winning mentality. With Ivanovic and Maicon as our two RB's we'd be more than covered for that position. In fact it'd probably be the strongest RB department in Europe. All in a perfect signing for the type of RB we are looking for. This is one story I hope is true as it makes alot of sense (I just hope he doesn't arrive on big wages).

If we buy Modric using Sturridge, we'd have to buy another striker as well. So if we decided to use Sturridge as a bargaining chip we automatically have to buy 2 players instead of 1.
