Memes were around before the internet. Richard Dawson coined the term meme and it's just a cultural and social concept that is meant to evolve. I can not stress that word enough, meme implies evolution. Internet memes were originally called so because it almost mirrors natural selection. Stupid jokes would die off and never seen again (weak animals) strong jokes would spread and evolve (they would be altered etc.). A true sign of a true meme is when it becomes another meme altogether. This is the best instance I can find. Memes aren't made they are born. You can not stick words on a picture and say it's an individual meme. IT'S FALLS UNDER A CATERGORY OF MEME CALLED "IMAGE MACRO".
