There’s a reason Klopp, Arteta, and ourselves all wanted him and why City didn’t want to sell him for under £50m. He’s a super talent in a position that everyone is desperate to find a top player in. That we spent £50m on him after already spending mega money in midfield says how much we rate him.

Would be great if they did from our POV. They’d have one LB who can’t stay fit in Shaw and one who can’t defend in Alonso. It was a weakness of his when he was here and he’s now several years older so it surely got worse.

I listed Lavia because I think he’s going to be an amazing player for us in the long term. At just 20 years old I’m not that concerned about his injuries last season. I’m choosing to believe it was just shit luck unlike Fofana or Reece for example who have chronic issues. I guess I’m just much more optimistic going into the season about our defense. Call it naive hope, perhaps. But with the personnel we have and the tactics we’ll use I think the CB’s and defenders will be much less exposed.

They’ve done more good than bad in terms of buys for me so far. Caicedo, Enzo, Lavia, Palmer, Gusto, Nico Jackson. Fought to keep Colwill when he could’ve easily moved. Gotten rid of a bunch of players who needed to go. And I’m very optimistic about several of this summer’s buys. Yes, there have been some serious mistakes but everything I named above far outweighs the errors, imo. This season is 100% make or break for them in terms of getting the supporters on their side, though.

Aren’t we also just fucking ourselves over by signing yet another keeper when we still have so many on our books? Who is going to want to pay more than a few million for Kepa and Petro if they know we’re desperate to move them on? Or really, pay ANY fee at all? If I’m a club that’s interested in either of them I’m just waiting until deadline day when Chelsea are sweating and offer a loan proposal.

I’ve been watching more Jorgensen on YT and again, this guy just looks average. And he looks absolutely NOTHING like an Ederson/Allison/Costa/Raya type who passes the ball around like an outfield player essentially. He just looks like a traditional big keeper who is no better with his feet than Petrovic now or Mendy when he was here. Feels like we’re going to be making yet another mistake in the goalkeeper department and will be looking for a new one AGAIN 1 year from now. If this one doesn’t work perhaps on the 4th attempt next year we’ll finally realize that we should just spend the fucking money and buy a proven world class keeper and stop being cute trying to uncover someone?

Don’t get the move for a keeper that may not even be as good as Sanchez or Petro. Makes no sense at all unless Maresca himself is the one who extensively scouted and made the recommendation. Would be ridiculous if this is yet another scenario where some stats nerd in his basement looked at some spreadsheets and picked him out. Everything I have heard about the guy makes it sound like he’s prone to epic howlers.

Chalobah should be sold but £25m seems extremely low. In an era where random, unknown teenagers are going for that amount or more I feel like we should be asking around £35m for an established PL CB. One who’s only 25 and homegrown. Especially if we’re going to sell him to a club we’re competing against.

I feel like there’s a reason a host of big clubs like ourselves, United, Newcastle, and Liverpool were interested in bringing in Tosin on a free. I’m not saying he’s going to be a superstar or anything but I think based on what I’ve watched he’s an upgrade on Chalobah. Your mate seeing every Fulham match and saying Trev is superior is fine. But I’ve watched every Chelsea match and have seen Trev look consistently solid but nothing special. Trev doesn’t really do any of the things you’re expecting a modern top level CB to do and especially not under a coach who will ask a lot from his defenders. He’s not dominant in the air defensively and watching him on the ball felt like it was just him passing it sideways to Thiago Silva 50 times per match so he could handle all the forward passing. I think the only piece we’re missing for our defense is the settled, #1 keeper. I’m perfectly happy for THIS WINDOW with our CB options. Not saying Disasi, Fofana, and Badiashile are long term options.

Thiago Silva we may absolutely miss but Trev and Gallagher will be forgotten about quickly in the same way Mount and Havertz were last season.

This forum is so damn negative about our squad. I don’t get it. We were horrible for much of last season, had no discernible style of play, and had the worst injury situation in the league and we STILL came within touching distance of top 4. If we made 0 new signings and simply started this new season with those injured players back fit I think we take a big step forward. I especially think so many of our fans just instantly dismissing Tosin and KDH as “average dross” and terms like that before we even kick a ball is mad. I totally get and share the frustration with the signing of totally unproven guys like Guiu and Veiga but Tosin & KDH are senior pros who I think slot in and improve our first XI from day 1. Really feels like we’re just a top keeper and another goal scorer of some sort away from being a truly elite team ready to compete with anyone. I don’t get the doom and gloom at all. Player for player I think our squad is COMFORTABLY superior to the teams we’ll be competing with for the 3rd/4th spot.

Yeah, that’s very telling. Maresca doesn’t fancy him and Leicester fans didn’t either. They were super angry when there was talk of Casadei being the player we’d include in the KDH transfer. Said he looked lost when he played for them. I can see why. Unless they are really special with their ball playing ability like Ederson, Allison, or Diogo Costa it’s probably really tricky to find the right guy.

Trying to do some YouTube scouting of goalkeepers is always such a chore. Tried to get a look at this Jorgensen guy we’re linked with but as with most keeper montages all they really show is him making saves. Something you can get a million clips of for any keeper. I want to see how these guys are with their distribution, passing, and their composure when being pressed. So I have no clue what this guy brings that our current keepers don’t. 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

Surprised we aren’t being linked with Ramsdale again like we were months ago. Arse just signed a young keeper as well as payed a decent fee to sign Raya permanently.

Tbh, I personally think Trev is at the same level as Disasi and Badiashile. All are capabale of decent displays when the team is playing well but none are starting quality for a team hoping to be in the UCL places. I don’t trust Chalobah at all in a build from the back system like we’ll be playing where the CB’s have to be excellent on the ball and press resistant. Like Disasi, Trev is prone to silly, catastrophic mistakes when he is rushed or pressed. Yet reading popular Chelsea Twitter guys like Pys or Younes you’d think we’re selling John Terry.

I’ve said this before but I just don’t for the life of me get the meltdowns from our fans on Twitter about us selling Trev. Exactly the same as Gallagher. Two players who are academy products, yes so I get the sentimentality, but are merely decent but not great players. They’re solid squad players for a top team. Yet Chelsea fans are losing their heads as if we’re selling Salah or KDB again. Neither Chalobah or Gallagher get anywhere near our best XI this season if everyone is fit. So if we can get tens of millions in pure profit for players who weren’t even going to be starters it’s a no brainer.

So much for getting a few million in pure profit for Malang Sarr. The club just said fuck it and let him walk for free. Guess we didn’t want to risk Lens having a change of heart if we demanded a fee and then we’d be stuck with him for another year.

Idk, there seems to be quite a bit of interest for several of them. The issue is that we’re asking for relatively sky high fees that the interested clubs are hesitant to pay.

I think our incoming business is done until we start moving a few players on. That would explain the total absence of credible links to anyone currently. I bet after this week’s 2 preseason matches we’ll start seeing some movement out and some links to incoming targets again. At least I hope so.

Neves is the one player United had been linked with that I was actually annoyed/bothered about them potentially signing. He looks like a proper future star. So I’d be delighted if PSG end up with him and United get the guy PSG want to replace with Neves. If Neves can actually be had for “only” €75m as some are saying now rather than the €120m release clause Benfica were initially insisting on however I wouldn’t be surprised at all if United try to jump in and steal a march like they did with Yoro. He looked like good mates with Bruno Fernandes while with Portugal a few weeks ago so it’ll probably be easy to convince him with a silly wage offer.

Maybe after we have Sarr, Lukaku, Kepa, and whoever else off our books PLUS the transfer fees we can go all out on a proper world class keeper.

Is he even a ball playing keeper? From the highlights I’ve seen of him he just looks like your classic giant keeper.

Bringing in any keeper that’s not the immediate #1 is so dumb. Either go big for one of the world class ones like Mamar or Diogo Costa now or stick with what we have, see how they do until January, and if they aren’t up to it go big then. Bringing in someone now who may not even be better than the average keepers who are already here would be stupid. We’ve already made a mess for ourselves by stockpiling so many mediocre keepers on ridiculously long contracts. Costa would be transformational for this team but Porto would ask as much for him as superstar attacking players go for, sadly.
